I was pleasantly surprised when I started looking online into G-Scale to find there is a club in Pittsburgh. I never gave G-Scale any thought prior to this past fall and I had no expectations how popular this is. The display setup at the PPG building over the holidays really motivated me to move forward with doing this so yes there is some good promotion in the Pittsburgh area.

With all the folks from PA signing up here lately suggests two things to me.
Someone has been running a large scale campaign or -
the PA clubs and folks are doing a great job of promoting the hobby!
Alan, in my case neither was true. I was just lost and wandered in here one day. AND, I happen to have some big trains that I play with in the backyard. It just kinda worked out.

Well, David, that must be what happened to me. Wondered what I was doing here.

Yup - word of mouth is good, but word of eye is better.
tac, off to Ely tomorrow to run trains on our portable track and spread the word…
I like the Isle, Tac. I always feel that I have gone back a few centuries when in the Cathedral. You could have a great set up in there, providing they move some of the chairs!
Funny you should mention the wonderful cathedral there. mrs tac was away in Ely for the last three days at the 50th anniversary of her graduation as an SRN in the RAF/PMRAFNS.
She and her chums went to evensong on tuesday, and were appalled by it. mrs tac loves choral music, as do I, but its was all full of unnecessary ‘twiddly bits’ a bit like Arethra Franklin or singers of her ilk trying to sing the Star Spangled Banner - I’m sure you know the kind of vocal acrobatics I mean. They walked right out, saddened.
By contrast, when we were up in Durham a couple of years back, evensong there by comparison was utterly blissful.
Apologies to all for driftin’…

Welcome Mark!
I too am in the process of building an outdoor layout. The guys here are great!
Welcome Aboard Mark!

For all of you (we?) locals, the PGRS (Pittsburgh Garden Railway Society) will be setting up a weekend layout in Beallsville, PA. Never heard of Beallsville? It is on route 40 between Washington, PA and Uniontown.
This weekend there is a celebration of the National Road (route 40) that runs for hundreds of miles. Near where we will be folks have yard sales, craft events and there is a very large steam engine exposition. (see: http://www.nationalpike.com/ ) It is about 5 miles from Beallsville.
We will be setting up tomorrow and will have the layout open to the public Saturday and Sunday.
The PGRS layout is located at the Masonic Hall at 2907 Mail Street in Beallsville.- here is a link to a map: https://www.google.com/maps/place/2907+Main+St/@40.0632014,-80.0201998,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m2!3m1!1s0x8835066d64893e05:0xca1cb71ff2cc840d?hl=en
I hope some of you can stop by and say HI!

Dave and others in the da Burgh,
Wish I was able to make it on Sunday but the mulching took way longer to do than just Saturday as we thought it take. I definitely would like to meet up with others in Pittsburgh and discuss trains. Being new to the outdoor and G-Scale I am developing a lot of questions.
Mark
Mark & other local G-scale folks,
Feel free to stop by any time you are in the South Hills of Pittsburgh - I am right no Bower Hill Road about 1 mile from St. Clair Hospital
Just drop me an email and let me know [email protected]

We were fortunate enough to stop out and see the display. As soon as we walked in I was able to see Dave’s influence all over. Push button sound boxes, automatically braking hand cars, and LED signs to name a few. I did some reading on line too, and it seems like a great group. I think my wife is just as interested in joining as I am. Just want to get one last project out of the way (truck restoration) before I join another organization…
One thing I did notice Dave, You guys need a sign for the lawn. We drove right past and had to turn around. I can help with this. I’ll be in touch.
