Large Scale Central

New elevated “hybrid” layout

Haha, fortunately the engine stayed on. The “cameraman” took A quick header, but he ended up being okay!

Don’t worry Matt. Casey Jones derailed a few times too running through closed switches before he was killed in the wreck. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

Hello everyone, I hope that you are all faring well during our time of quarantine. I have had plenty of time to get after some projects around the house and fortunately the layout has fallen on to that list. Since my last post a lot of work has been. A lot of tweaking and fine tuning of the steel loops has taken place. The face board was installed today to not only help with the appearance of the layout, but also it was provide enough of a lip to retain the landscaping once I have installed it. The decking is finally complete and is secure. The layout has proven to be very reliable and derailments have been reduced to a minimum.

Next up will be to get the ballast in, once this happens the track work to level and remove any potentially harmful spots will commence. I have been having a blast with this project and my boy definitely loves it. He has taken to the Airwire fairly well and does a good job of controlling the trains.

I will ballast the track around the entire layout, on the loops as well. This will help with getting the track work the best I can for running live steam engines without RC. Lastly, the buildings and town areas will be set up and will start to work on the scenic pieces.

The plan is to stain the wood with a good deck sealer to best protect it.

Thanks for looking everyone. Here is a video that shows the latest work done.
