Large Scale Central

Neal's 2019 MIK Build

Looks like a popular diner. I second the neon lights on the pot, that would be cool. A few of those cars setting in front of it would be cool too. Looking forward to seeing some progress shots, Neal.

Where is that Diner located, Medford?

Hi, Rick,

Today that building is the R&D Sandwich Shop on Riverside in Medford, OR. But, sadly, the rooftop coffee pot is long gone.

The front of the building is assembled. Here it is with mock-up of signage.

Hi, Rick,

Know it well, have had lunch there several times, great sandwiches(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

It does look awfully familiar. What’s the nearest cross street? My son used to live in Medford, been out there quite a few times. Matter of fact, he proposed to his wife in Jacksonville.

Hi Ken,

It is on the East side of Riverside between Manzanita st and Liberty st. backs up to the Bear Creek Greenway.

Gotcha, Rick. I think we did eat there once.

Elmer’s and Rooster’s were 2 other places we ate.

(sorry about the hijack, Neal…(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) )

a guy in my club uses those Glow Sticks to simulate neon, attach to building using the connectors supplied in the box break and shake at start of night and the light lasts for a few hours, plus its really cheap and no wiring!

OK, I completed it Sunday night and here she is. I don’t normally do interiors, but with all those windows this one really needs some booths, people and interior lighting. That will have to come later! I’ll post a picture in the spring when we get it located in our town with some 50’s cars parked out front.

Outstanding.

The coffee pot and signage are great. Nice job!

very nice

That is really neat! A very original Build.

Great job Neal. What did you use for “plaster” behind the signs?

Cool diner, Neal. Great job.

For plaster I coated the wall with ABS cement and threw on some screened gravel. Easy, but not exactly a match for the original, which is very rough stucco, like a textured interior wall gone ballistic.

Thanks for the props, guys!

Nice technique though.

You pulled it off, Neal. Congrats!
