Large Scale Central

N.B.R.R v4.0

it was 31 degrees this morning at 0800 our first Frost…working to nail down Bobcat to finalize retaining wall…

as I said Wheels are turning…1 step forward 3 steps back-kinda like this:

almost 4 years ago-at the old house, our last outdoor try before the move

I remember following your threads from your old layout. If it makes you feel better we had our first frost over a month ago.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can…

I knew I could, I knew I could, I knew I could… (http://www.freerails.com/images/emoticons/cheer.gif)

Since I’ve move the wood-pile I have a better idea of what I’ll do to the carport. I plan to build a 42" or 48" wall the entire length of the carport. This short wall will be finished with the same siding as the really narrow wall on the far right. the above area can then be screened-making not only a nice Summer Kitchen, but a good bug-free train viewing area.

Puke Green color represents new construction-this will also allow the entire length of the carport to be used as backdrop and a great place to install some town and other flats…will try to get this done over the coming weekend!

That’s a good idea you came up with!

I guess I’ve been hiding under a rock, but I dig the retaining wall this Chap has built with old ‘sleepers’…never thought of that one before…I wonder if I could sell this idea to the bride?

or, could I incorporate it along with the Large Rocks I have on hand?..

Just remember the RR ties are heavy and nasty…Dad and I built retaining walls and steps at his place years ago…cresoted ties will eat up a chainsaw blade…but they have been in place for at least 20 years!

it’s raining today, so the brush pile is up in flames…

while checking on the fire I glanced and saw the Cedar Trees that have recently been felled and I had a thought…

what about cutting some of them to use as the Chap in the above video did with the ‘sleepers’…

Cedar will last a LONG time-there are fence post on the farm that just now need to be replaced that the original owner installed when he cut the trees off to build the house in 1975’ish

so I have an Abundant Supply on the ground for post and such, not to mention the 100’s I have growing All Over!

this tree was about 40"+ across the bottom and is nearly 25’ tall

Cedar Post if you will cut and fit along with the Rocks that I have in place (and the others I need a Machine to move) to form the wall and support a nice even grade…

ultimately this would allow me to get them out of my way and further tie in the features of our property along with (and most importantly) saving money

yep…thats a purtty good idea…

Looks like you need to install a sander on your loco.

The cedar Idea is not a bad one, but keep in mind its a lot harder to get a straight wall.

Straight isn’t really needed here, just the right height

Cale,
I’m guessing you have some local or backyard sawmills around like I have here.
The Cedars could be cut down to 6x6 for very little expense.
It would make them much easier to work with and give you a nice looking retaining wall.

If nothing else, you can make your own “chainsaw mill”.
Ralph

Cale, I like where you’r going, As I traced the routs there is a lot of running possibly.

If it’s worth anything, Did you intentionally leave out the reversing loop or the wye to turn things around and run the other way. being able to run the other way around allows for head ons and having to plan around meets. Adds interest to the running.

Not really track/trestle but thought I’d post a little here today after rambling around in the barn…

I finally painted the cab for Eli’s Annie loco #703, that’s Jackson Burke Green if you are wondering…first coat and all, we’ll see how this proceeds

I soon realized I had NO idea where my decals were that Stan made for #703 way back when…but while looking through everything I could find…

ohhhhhhh, yes, those are what you think they are…

anyways, in addition to that I found 1.5 RCS set-ups and a Sierra Sound Card with all the extras…I’ve gotten myself taken care of for the most part…'cept I still have no idea where the numbers for the cab are…

OH and while I’m boring you with all the details, I have a mini poll to conduct:

Do I use the Split-jaw Roadbed or do I sell it to help fund the build…

Cale

I like the idea of using cedar. It will look more natural and blend in better.

Glad to see you making progress.

OMG(oodness)

I’ve had yet ANOTHER idea for the retaining wall build…that is holding the project up (bad pun)

http://greenville.craigslist.org/grd/4285354699.html

it appears that I can spend less than $200 and build a wall with those 6"x8"x8’ timbers. Run them length-wise and voila I’ve got the wall…don’t think that joint is too far away from the Ice-Man Ralph and his empire either…

I’ve got about 2 dozen projects that need be completed regarding the farm too, but in about 2 hours I could run up and snag the post…stand by-If I can find the dough, I’m making the trip!

Gotta start somewhere…

Now get some track down

The line was level until you put that thing on it.
