My health update.

That’s a long time to just sit and suffer Devon, but hopefully it will be the glint of light at the end of the tunnel (to put a train metaphor onto this).

I don’t have a choice in that. A month til surgery then a month to heal and then who knows how long before I can get the brain surgery scheduled. But progress helps with the suffering more than not having answers and suffering. I am thinking about getting another spinal tap to help alleviate the symptoms in the meantime. My general surgeon thinks thats what I should do while we work for a solution. But he won’t order it because its not his area, can’t blame him for that.

Devon, it pains me to see how these Dr.’s don’t have any sense of urgency to your plight. I have a feeling if they were in your shoes, they would not settle for waiting a month to have surgery to fix something that should have been fixed months ago. But I guess some progress is better than nothing. I hope this is the beginning of the road to recovery.

Surgery #6 will be going down sometime in the middle of April. The surgeon agreed to borrow Steve’s stick and root around and remove a bunch of tissue and see if he can find the problem. He agreed that sometimes imaging doesn’t explain things and you have to just go look. He also agrees that having a reoccurring abscess is not normal. So this will push my shunt surgery back but it is a necessary step to getting me the shunt at the same time. I need to get this healed and I think/hope/pray this will do it.

So, was this surgeon a Corpsman, early in his career? He makes too much sense, for it to be otherwise. (https://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)

I think I would insist on them doing the spinal tap while you are out for the lift the hood and poke around to see what’s happening surgery. Save some time and safe you some pain and suffering. At least it makes sense to me, save you some money, the guys that are there anyway, but , since it makes sense they will come up with a reason for not relieving that pain for a while. You need to come stay down here for a month or so, We have some world class places, like Mayo Clinic here, I would open my house while you are here and you can bring trains( and build some things while you are here, but they would have to stay here) to run.

This not a bad idea, in fact it is very logical. Therefore it won’t happen. The spinal tap people are radiologists and they do it with a flouroscope (fancy X-ray) to guide them. Unless they have a flouriscope in the operating room and can call in a radiologist to do it, I doubt it would get done. But I will ask. Its a good idea.

Surgery #6 is in the books. Went well. He must have taken out a lot of tissue and really cleaned things. Hurts like hell. I haven’t talked to him yet (odd because he didnt come in post op) to see what if anything he found. But hopefully this will put me back on the road to a new shunt.

Great news, Devon. Glad it went well. I hope you have a quick recovery and can get the new shunt scheduled soon.

So glad to hear it, my friend!

Huzzah!

OK Devon. May it lead to a string of such great news!

Good news!

I think he was spotted on the 3rd tee box of the Highlands Golf Club.

Great news…

Surgery #7 has been cleared for launch. June 13th I will be getting my new shunt. That is provided nothing goes south with the recent surgery. But that seems to be healing up nicely. Doesn’t hurt as much and the pain has shifted from the pain of being cut up to the pain of forming scar tissue.

Yay! We hope this is the end of these trials for you, Devon.

How do you know you have been to the hospital to much? When your sock drawer looks like this

Great news! I’m so happy for you.

Fingers crossed!

My wife and I both have collections like that! But we are all still here!
