Continued prayer…
I have been to busy fishing and being in the shop to model. I have been catching the heck out of northern pike. Yum. The best eating fish there is. Havent caught any big ones ut in the last two weeks I have netted 6 in the 5 to 8 pound range which are the best eaters in my opinion. Especially since I am the only one in my immediate family that ears fish. Soma lot get given to family and friends.
But that is nice considering I have done more fishing in the last month than the last two years combined. It feels nice to be out again.
Glad to see you enjoying the life, Devon. Certainly well deserved. Don’t believe I’ve ever partaken in northern pike but it is a fine looking fish.

It’s a very underrated fish. Many consider them a nuisance fish since they eat everything. But they are eager, fight hard, and taste great. I think the biggest reason people dont like to eat them is they are boney, they have an extra set of bones that make them hard to fillet. But once you know how they are as easy as any fish and you get 6 strips of boneless meat out of each. It has a mild flavor and has a texture about like halibut, big flakey chunks. You have to live in the northern latitudes to get them. We are about as far south as they go. But if you like fish and you ever get the chance take it.

You ear fish? OK, whatever floats your boat.
We went camping and fishing in Canada when I was a kid, and my dad landed a few of them Northern Pike. They are good.
I was a pre teen then, so I landed small fish that my dad would use as bait for larger fish.
Edit for the effing spell chequer
Sorry, I just have to…
Does one have to have swimmers ear to ear fish???

Lol north idaho ear piercing. Stick a pike in your ear. When you are done you will look like one of those side show people with 25 piercings in their ear. Yes they have teeth, everywhere
Brain, draining ok, eyes getting better, spelling, well that needs some big help still!! Really glad to see you are doing so much better!

That has been a life long incurable handicap.
Years ago we used to catch the hell out of the Pike in the chain lakes of the CdA River. Is that where you fish, Devon? Back then, the water was too warm and the fish too slimy to provide any quality eating. Give me a Walleye out of Lake Roosevelt any day!

Chain lakes are only good in the spring. You are right they get warm and the fish are not good eating. This time of year I fish the bays of the main lake. Mica, kid island, and Rockford mainly. Anywhere I can find deep weeds. Since the main lake below the surface rarely gets much above 70 and surface temps only high 70s the pike in the main lake stay in much better shape. Still stinky slime balls but the meat is still firm and eatable. Not mushy and muddy. Much past early June or before october I dont fish the chains to much and rarely keep anything if I do.
With that said I did fish kilarney today and caught a nice 3.5# large mouth. She went back in to live to fight another day.
Not the biggest bass ever but still fun to catch. Pepper had to approve before the release
If you look to the southeast from Killarney and see that high peak called Initial Pk, we were on the summit of that last Thursday looking down on the Chain Lakes. Found a Huckleberry patch near there and picked a pail full.
Wow that’s a late huckleberry find, yum. Off that rock hill (almost island) on the west side of kilarney is where that bass was caught. That’s a neat picture of the lake.
I make a mean huckleberry bbq sauce.
Devon, are you coming to NGRC? Would love to meet up if you are …
Huh, I never knew that the temperature of the water affected the taste or texture of the fish. Fascinating!
