My Daddy Taught Me Better...

Ow.

Helped Lisa cut out a big rose bush last fall. I was wearing gloves, but, of course, not shoes. Let’s see, where did I leave them…

So I suffer from mild but chronic vertigo. Normally it is an annoyance at worst. Get the bed spins without the pleasure of the associated alcohol that sort of thing. But one time I stood up from a kneeling position while trimming a big rose bush and fell face first into it. Lets just say that the words that came from my mouth did not make me proud.

Using words that would make a sailor blush, eh? Yeah, I’ve done that.

Being ex-navy I remember having to go to the dentist aboard ship, USS Forrestal CVA-59. Let’s just say he turned me off on going to the dentist for a long time. I now regret it.

I too was aboard USS Forrestal with CAW 17 VA-83 Rampagers in 1972. I did not have any dental work done out at sea, but had a whole bunch done at NAS Patuxent River in 1970! What an experience.

Then there are fish hooks, which go in easier than they come out. How do I know this? Sorry about your ow-ee Steve. Been there, done that too (not the doctor’s part, though). In fact, I just bought a slick, al-loo-ni-mum stepladder to replace the wooden one, which gave me a splinter whenever I handled it.

Joe,

I was aboard Forrestal 67-69. I was an enginemen and worked the liberty boats. I reported aboad her the day after she arrived back in Norfork after the fire. Today she is just a memmory as she was sold for scrap in Jan. 2014 for $1.00, or was it $.01. Can’t remember. Still have my cruise book from the 68-69 Med cruise.

Thanks for your service.

Chester

Fish hook:

Ow. I was fishing with my family one summer evening when I was 10 or 11. Inexplicably, Carol cast sideways once and the hook caught me by the bare side under my right arm. Of course, she had to “twoink” it a couple times before she realized her hook was stuck in me. I laid on my side on a picnic table with blood running down my front crying while Dad worked it out for me. He cut off the eyelet, then grabbed it with a pair of pliers and poked it through till the point came out through a new hole.

Yikes! I hope your sister Carol ( my only sister is also Carol) got a a good scolding from your Dad.

Don’t think she needed one. She was horrified at the accident and crying harder than me.
