Dennis,
I really wish you would stop posting these pictures. Every time I start to think I don’t want to do this it comes up and I am right back to wanting to do this again. It looks so nice.

This should be a gospel. Or at least the introduction to a book about large-scale outdoor (not garden!) railroading.
The project is awesome.
Yeah, Dennis is treating his railroad from a very different mindset than the traditional “garden” railroad. It is the same principle as the smaller scale guys and I love it. I made the same types of rocks out of latex and plaster in HO. This is just on steroids.
Keep it up Dennis
The look of this type of modeling takes me back to my HO days, when this look was the eye candy that John Allen built in his Monterey, CA layout. Magazines were filled with pictures of his layout that made me drool with envy. So … I learned to do it and had a lot of success. Not to nearly the size of his huge, tall, wonderful layout; but it looked good.
this is really amazing work
thank you

I use a simple type S mortar mix, just add, water, and mix,
As much as I use I built a small mortar mixer, I mix up one sack at a time, dump into wheelbarrel , I either mix up 2 or 3 sacks at a time, washout mixer, done until next time. A big Saturday will be 6-8 sacks.
Keep watching lots of pics still coming
Dennis

Coming from a Rooster, I consider that as a compliment, (Thanks Rooster)
I think Rooster should be inside inspecting as Dennis finishes the mountain! (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Dennis
You are going to have to come up with a mountain climber for those cliffs.
Chris
Started coloring The mountains, I use acid etching coloring from Lowes, it really works good. I spray it on with a small pump up garden sprayer.
In some areas I spray a second coat on, I used the color called Coffee, which produced almost an over bearing of red coloring. after it drys for a few hours to overnight, then I mix a acrylic black real thin with water. then spray with again a garden sprayer. That places a mild dark coat and shadowing in the crevices, certain areas i double coat, and where water would run down in the ditches or run down areas, i spray 3or 4 times to represent deeper washouts, looks very natural.
Back side almost all laid up
