Steve,
you really need to read a posting before engaging your thought processes. I stated, firstly, a defined withdrawal date, secondly a unified government and thirdly, treat the people with respect and not as an oil well. The Sunnis have now come back on board and are being actually considered as part of the government. No withdrawal date, so no real need for the Iraqis to get earnest about self protection when they have a ‘friend’ looking after their back. Only a defined end date staged withdrawal will be the incentive required to give the needed ‘kick in the boot’.
The money mentioned is not missing - it was stolen from the Iraqi people. In the 18 months after the invasion, around 16 billion dollars in cash, was squandered. The Iraqi nation was treated as a defeated nation and was met with contempt. It was Saddam who was the target, not the Iraqi nation. The appointed administration succeeded in only one point - relieving the Iraqis of their money. Instead of unifying the country they successfully managed to break it up into defined racial groups. Now five years later, the groups are seeing a reason to reunify as one government, one people. Only by unifying the government will racial tension be overcome by national pride.

That peasant is spot on and the recon marines - who are they trying to con or kid anyhow? - are way out of their element! :)Steve Featherkile said:Well Steve, Its mildly amusing when you agree with it. What is so important about withdrawing from Irag? And what oil are we talking about? And what’s so bad about having a friend looking out for your back? 60 years after defeating Hitler and Tojo we still have a military presence in Germany and Japan. 50 years after the Korean conflict we still have a presence there also. No planned withdraw from those countries. No exact date given on when withdraw will occur. I’m sure the North Korean government would love to hear about us withdrawing from there. What better way to draw up a battle plan than knowing your enemies plans and knowing exactly when they won’t be there to disrupt them.
The Iraqi military was treated with contempt. I don’t recall the citizens there being treated with contempt. But since so many took off their uniform and retreated into the civilian population I can see where that statement came from.
