More new 1:20.3 stuff from "Ames and Company"

My post was largely tongue in cheek, as some of you noticed. I appreciate frankness and honesty–that’s great, and of course it’s totally legitimate to criticize manufacturers when they screw up. I can’t see the point of a forum where all the posts just say “isn’t X really great.” I’ve learned a ton here, and as I said, I’m grateful. It’s a little odd to be told that this is the forum where free speech lives, so shut up and leave, but I’m sorry if my light tone didn’t come across, I really am.

Anyway, I’m getting older and crankier by the minute myself. And when the wheels fall of my aristo mikado, I’ll know who and what to blame!

Thanks again for all your help. Stay cranky!

Mike, my son, you just proved your worth…Welcome…come on in and enjoy a bheer or three…I’m buying !!!

Mike,
if you are a cranky, cantankerous old bast**** then you will fit in just fine here. I failed to see the sarcasm in your response, as many who regularly post on this forum have received similar treatment on other sites and see this site as a haven, a paradise that allows one to be themselves without ‘fear of retribution’ from those who think they know better. Relax and join in the fun and you will find this site far better than others. Do not tell Bob or else he may charge for the privilege of enjoying oneself.

I particularly like this site for the friendly 'heated' discussion, something not tolerated on other sites. I returned to the Aristo forum simply because change is happening over there and finally people are starting to accept that the product is not perfect and there are ways to fix things without putting people's noses out of joint. The remaining site that I post on places more value in what the postman just delivered at your door than actually modelling their railroad. I post my projects on that site as I am able to post photographs. Once I take out a subscription on this site then all my modelling will be posted here. A railroad is not how much one spends on their hobby and gloating over it. One hobbyist claims the prize for having the most of a particular model of a LGB locomotive. If truth betold my collection numbers in excess of 70 of just that model locomotive. I do not gloat over my collection as for me the constructive side of the hobby is more important - not what the postman brings to my door.

I no longer post on the Bachmann site simply because there is no credibility on that site!

x isn’t always great either!!! If you hang around long enough in this hobby you’ll figure out there are quirks and less than up front honest, and always willing to help someone, not so friendly, everywhere in this hobby from little to big! If you buy almost anything eventually you will run across someone like the above. I am speaking from experience here boy’s My Experience, I will always give the benefit of the doubt to anyone, but i will also get it out and up front when there is a problem. I have had people in the know that you would all know not even answer to a simple request of “If there is something bothering you about me would you please let me know what it is so we can square it away or at least one of us will know what the hell the problem is” with NO reply!!! and I still don’t know what the problem was!! "There is alot of kiss ass, self serving, smile in your face, stab you in the back people in this hobby, and I have also met some straight arrows and so far up front honest people. You might not always like what you hear but at least you’ll know its the truth, like it or not from me at any rate. Thats my opinion and i’m sticking to it. The Regal

Well one brand X that has the reputation of being every bit as bulletproof and this certain German companies reputation, also receives critism for being ‘toylike and not realistic’ so its a no-win situation with ANY manufacturer, if one looks, one can find faults with any product, its whether those faults are widespread among many models, or if its just a couple of bad apple models, or maybe just a few people looking for trouble.

Vic,

One doesn’t look for trouble, one sniffs it out!  Easier in those cases where certain “stuff” doesn’t pass the smell test.

Great… Now I’m just going to worry about how long it will be before the axles crack on my USA Trains. Thanks Tim.

Sorry, just being grumpy.

I’ve been following this forum for a couple years, reading the posts from those “cranky old men”, and all I have to say is… THANKS!!!

It all depends which species one belongs to! :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Hmmm…Ames and Company have been keeping a somewhat low profile recently. Does this bode well or ill? It should be interesting to see what transpires at the BTS and at HAGRS next month!

Mr.Ames was on the chat last week, willing to give a polititian’s answer to any question posted…where was everyone…?

I do not think that Bachmann is so silly as to put all its eggs in one basket. They must have an escape plan (clause?) Company consultant one day, model railroader the next. Such are the (mis)fortunes of life. Of course my old mum did remind me on several occasions - “You made your bed, now lay in it.” This could be very apt for the current situation at corporate level. Or as Ceasar (or was that young TOC) said when confronted by the young Mr. Ames (Is that you Brutus?).
