Modules

All 1/2 inch plywood. 1 inch batten of 1/2 plywood around edge on underneath side making the edge 1 inch thick. Back is two pieces of 1/2 inch plywood glued together with a step of 1 inch so the top piece turns upside down and screws to the bottom piece protecting the two pieces for transportation. The Timesaver is 31 inches by 6 1/2 feet. Why? That is what would fit in my 1997 GMC Astro Van. It fits easily in the bigger van. What else? HO cork roadbed two pieces side by side actually making 4 pieces side by side. First 2 come not quite cut all the way through to protect the beveled edge. That is the way it si put down. The I take another section divide it at the bevel and use it as the edge of the two pieces that aren’t seperated. I’ve done all my inside track this way and still very happy with it.

I have literally built this at the ECLSTS, the SELSTS and the GGRC’s shows. If you cut the basic frame at home we could assemble it there. I have a small miter box saw for cuts needed. I can dig out more old pictures if you want. Glue, air nailer and paint. I think this is will be the 7th year we have been at York and the second year at Perry. Having the layout there, really adds to the fun.

Also makes a good test for the new stuff people buy.

Here’s my arm, twist it

I just wrote to my friend Lee Carlson. He’s been wanting to come to ECLSTS for a long time but work always gets in the way. I think he just retired so if his second job as a trainman at the Essex Steam Train doesn’t get in the way, I might be able to convince him to join me. My family has already said they don’t want to come again, so it would be a stag trip.

Last year I noticed in front of Memorial Hall that they have Electric & Water hook-ups for RVs. I’m trying to get more information on this from the fairgrounds folks.

No promises, but the waffle is getting ready to flip.

GOD, I love how a plan comes together.

Something to think about…

  1. Some of the alcove doors must be considered as a fire exit, so all the doors can’t be blocked, I don’t believe… We have blocked one set with the EBTFriends table last year, but the other set was open and usable for a fire exit, if needed…

  2. Ric, the way we set-up last year, with the ““Inglenook yard”” at a 90 degree tot he time saver, and going down along that wall, there’s not much room between the wall corner and the entrance to the mens bathroom, and if i remember rightly, it’s about 6-8 feet, maybe…

  3. putting it down the other side of the alcove, and you ran into the entrance to the snack bar…

If there are modules added, then you will probably need to move to a different location, to get it all set-up…

Just food for thought, I sure don’t want to burst any bubbles here, cause I’m all for it… Makes me kinda wish I could afford to go this year…

Last time we did an outside 90 degree turn. We could do an inside. I worried about the "Fire Exit’ for a couple of years and then I was reminded of the “Big Green Monster” that sits in front of us. Most of the people would die trying to get through that maze, so we should be able to get the survivors through the modules without many problems. Besides it will totally be the “steamheads” fault, so how can they blame us?

Normal disclaimer at the end of this message.

If the fire department doesn’t see your note you’re ok!

There are a lot of doors to the outside along the back wall of the display hall so i wouldn’t worry about that. You just need to unwire the EXIT sign and you’re all set.

I’ll build the modules so they fit into the back of my truck. Probably 5’ long, and maybe 24" wide, since I can stand them on end.

Hrm… now to dig up some 332 track…
