Large Scale Central

MLS gone? or my connection?

I think many of us agreed, the change in support was pretty much apparent right away. The existing moderators struggled, but their “authority” was limited.

The “fabric” of the site was cobbled together, and more than once I donated several hundreds of dollars to help… “Oh I need a new server”, and the server was never purchased and things never got better. When the lead person sold out and left with his roll of duct tape, the writing was on the wall.

Then when they nuked half the photos (in alphabetical order) and could not restore them you knew the site was in trouble and in the hands of incompetents…

So, you may have seen my “timer” that I was wondering if I could hit 20,000 posts before MLS imploded… well I hit that just recently and flew the coop…

Greg

FWIW, I’m an MLS grad, and am always glad to see a fellow alumni here. I have nothing but thanks to Chad (who created MLS, but had to sell off), and the great and first friends I made in the hobby while over there in my “early years.”

LSC is, of course, a clear opportunity for a new home for the folks being abandoned there. But the cultures differ; and I hope we on the LSC end can appreciate that in our conversations. And I hope that we can give a great welcome to each and every one of our MLS cousins, if and when they decide to join us here.

There are many heavy hitters in our hobby that have stayed true to MLS, yet stand on their own in the hobby – with or without any online forum. Especially on the live steam front, but in other areas as well. We can and should show respect respect for them and their accomplishments, even if not published prior on LSC.

Bottom line: We all share the same large scale DNA. So if and when one of the MLS folks join with us, let’s be gracious, appreciative and welcoming. Often times, one of “them” may know far more then one of “us.” We have lots to share.

Cliff

not if, but when they come over here, what would change?

the burnt fingers brigade would move into the “live steam corner” and stay amongst themselves, as they do there.

from the rest, far more than half of the active members there are active members here as well and not only since yesterday.

the less active members won’t be any problem, just because they are not so active.

only less nice thing, that could probably happen, are the “specialists wars”, that were more pronounced over there.

but our freaky $h!t-head brigade (guys, you know, who is meant!) will easily ridicule that.

so, let them come! we will win all together.

(who helps to paint a sign “immigrants welcome”?)

What is MLS ?

There are some things best left unsaid, the facts have been omitted to protect the innocent, now if we could only find one…

I left a friendly open ended invitation on Dwights post to Dwight and others who are tired of the techmonkeys running MLS to come on over to LCS.

I also left a not so friendly personal reminder to the techmonkeys on their notification post that they fawned the same useless apologies and still did absolutely nothing when we lost our photos.

I fully expect when they switch over they lose half the posts.

Vic,

ONLY half the posts…I’m expecting the entire thing to implode :).

The switch has already been done.

Right Chris, it was announced the same day the conversion was don (so it was stated), but remember that the deletion of half of all members photos happened some time AFTER the takeover… not immediately. To his credit, Shad was promised by Vertical Scope that everything would be supported and maintained… then some time after things went wrong.

Where I expect them to nuke posts is in the older posts that haven’t been active for a while. One day some techmonkey will decide to purge posts past a certain date to free up space.

Greg,

I remember when MLS was sold and TOC predicted that MLS would go down the tube shortly after the Vertical Scope takeover… And here we are a few years later…

It didn’t go down fast like the Lusitania, but like the Titanic, it’s leaking, no one is fixing the holes and there’s not enough lifeboats to save every topic or post. It may be around tomorrow or next year, but 5 years? Not the way VS is running it into the ground.

When the advertising does not pay the rent, the site will disappear.

And if advertisers read any of the posts with people leaving that will move things along in a hurry, especially if they read that everyone is leaving for LSC.

Its a shame that its all about money, and the heck with the customers and the content.
