Large Scale Central

MDC info.

Ken;

Don’t worry about the mistake…please. Just feel welcome here.

If you have any questions; please ask them. A whole lot of Knowledgeable people frequent these forums. Who knows, you might have information to share too. There is also the chatroom, where questions and answers meet in much disarray, and get thrown around with much joking and humour. The end result usually is pleasing, and everyone ends up with a bit of a laugh. And knowledge is shared…

Fred Mills

Thanks David, never thought of that kind of variety. Always thought sizes had to match, somewhat anyway.
Fred,
I have to say this site has really been instrumental in how and what we do with our train program. So I have to agree with you on all your points. The only problem is I can only access this site with my smartphone which creates a whole abundance of issues, like photos don’t post right and can’t seen to be remedied, some things post without my knowledge just being in the posting section, then there are continual double posts, photos not posting at all and a slew of other issues. I don’t blame anything on the site itself but it seems to not like my smartphone. This is why I am cautious and try to avoid the issues. (which still happen time to time)
I am not sure if it’s the phone, me or what but I appreciate your concern and maybe someday we’ll actually afford Internet at the house and solve all these problems. (Kinda have to give up that luxury to keep the program running, among others)
But as I said before, we sure are thankful this site is here.
It’s been a lot of help and there are a whole lot of good people here!

MTH is 1:32 …

My answer is: ebay.

As I read it, you really wanted to sell this, not really learn all about 1:32 in the hobby.

Also, did you have an issue running it with your trains? This question has been asked over and over, and there are several threads (many with the same picture) showing 1:32, 1:29 and LGB “gummy” scale box cars all in the same train. Why not keep it and run it?

MTH is 1:32 …

Many of the live steam Aster owners are running 1/32nd scale trains, as Aster made a lot of 1/32nd locomotives. Accucraft has made a few too. Long freight trains of boxcars or reefers are common behind the big iron.

If you want to sell it, post it on a live steam forum.

Hey Greg,
I did want to know more about MDC but the only 1/32nd train I own is MTH’s American Freedom Train. The passenger cars are long enough to be ok looking with the other equipment, I guess.
4449 looks larger in the front than some of their other equipment they manufacturer, so we run it with 1/29th scale equipment without a problem, although on occasion some people in public observing do mention the size difference. 1/32nd is ok by Itself but it’s just that we don’t have any 1/32nd freight equipment until this car came along. So we didn’t know what to do with it.
It came to us in a collection of 1/29th scale items, therefore, I guess, we will sell it or maybe trade, as mentioned above for a descent LGB, Aristocraft or USA flatcar (to put loads on for kids) or any other car of the larger scales. The car hasn’t been out of the box, except for photos and is packed for shipping now. So I guess I was just wondering what to do with it, more or less. There is nothing wrong with it to my knowledge. Looks new.
Pete,
I think I will put it on the Live Steam Forum when I get a chance. Maybe someone would enjoy having it. It is a nice car!
Thanks guys!
Ken

Back when I was a youg’un, freight trains would go by and the box cars were different sizes, so depending on the era, it would be normal to see ununiform boxcars.

(Hits spittoon in corner of room)

Yessireebob!

I bought a lot of the ore cars and run them in unit train style behind 1/29th Aristo Mallet looks fine. Later RJD

Yea, we’ll have to give it a try & put,it in the train to see how it looks. I too remember trains with a whole lot of different sized cars. I suppose if this was an ore car it might look better. Worth a shot I guess!
Thanks guys. Ken

Ken, perhaps I don’t understand your “operation”, thus my questions might have sounded strange.

I get you do layouts and presentations in fairs and get kids interested and teach railroad safety.

But it seems you also have a “train business”, and frankly, all of a sudden speaking for Barry of BBT just has me confused.

So are you also in the business of buying and selling trains? Or is this incidental to your “Imagination Station”, which again I can find references to but no web site or explanation if this is a business, non-profit, etc.

Thanks,

Greg

Greg,
If you check out our profile and albums it should be self explanatory.
Here is what is posted on our page;

Imagination Station Kids On Track is a children’s non profit hands on operation model railroad and train safety program in the Northwest U.S. and California ccthat caters to all kids but especially disadvantaged children (6 million in the past 27 yrs.) providing fun and education to all ages in three scales, G, O, & HO with some N scale involvement at no charge to anyone ever. Imagination Station Kids on Track is A Child’s Gateway to Imagination! TM

We don’t sell anything under most circumstances unless it’s not owned by the program.
As far as Barry goes, he’s been a very close friend for a very long time. We sometimes try to let folks know how and what he’s doing, since he doesn’t have access to Internet currently. We don’t do any business for him other than promote his product at our events.
Speaking of events, we set up a 25 by 99 foot (or less as it is adjustable), 2 track main for kids and the public to operate the trains at children’s homes, schools, pediatric hospitals, churches, fairs, state facilities and train shows.
Hope this helps!
All the best! Ken

thanks Ken… last time I checked, your profile was private…

looked in google, facebook, nothing… just a few mentions… you don’t seem to have a web site…

did not think to look at albums, was looking for written words.

Thanks for the reply

Greg

Yea,
Our profile isn’t supposed to be private. If it is it’s due to an error. Funds don’t allow for a website but if you type the program name into the internet it comes up with photos on this site among many others we have been on. We don’t advertise due to expense but being around as long as we have, almost every model railroad company knows us and every owner has been at one or more of our events.
We’re just sharing the hobby with the next generations along with rail safety.
I hope you were able to view the photos and I appreciate your interest.
Check out our YouTube channel, it shows videos of some of our trains and some loaned to us.
Here is the channel link which will connect you to the channel.
Thanks Greg!

There are many strands it seems to this thread. The most important one, to my mind, is that everyone probably gets a lot of fun running trains - whatever their scale - at the exhibitions/shows that Ken and his folks attend.

Now the loose large scale train details. In many photographs, taken in the mid two quarters of the 20th. century, there does seem to one or two boxcars and other types that look much smaller than the majority (40ft.? ones). It has been quoted many times that there “is a prototype for everything” and that is quite true.

I have no 1:32 stock but do have a lot of 1:29 and some 1:24 and 1:22.5 stock. The 1:29 is generally diesel hauled and the others scales steam outline (Bachmann Annie) hauled. It is good to try and achieve some historical and prototypical accuracy but it is generally a matter or compromise and accepting what the eye considers acceptable.

Keep up the good work Ken, I can see how worthwhile it is and imagine how much it is appreciated.

I went into my profile, and I can’t see where I made it “Public”.

It is time to: “Ask Bob”!?

Ken, I know a company that supports non-profit organizations with a $100/year web site and email. That’s under $10 a month.

For all the good you are doing, I think a web site would be helpful. Then you can be googled, and have links to your youtube and you could document some of the good deeds. I could even have my arm twisted to help you get it started. Nothing big, but easy to use and maintain.

Email me if you are interested. Sounds like you are doing good stuff, I’d be happy to lend a hand.

Remember you from the Aristo forum. Good to know what you all do. Later RJD

Alan,
I have 2-1/32nd scale cars, not counting the American Freedom Train by MTH, and like you, I run one behind Barry’s Durango and Silverton 2-8-0. The other is this SP boxcar but I didn’t think this MDC would work because, honestly, as I mentioned before it is actually narrower, shorter and less in height than a Lionel. It’s really small.
I guess a person could intermix it but it sure would be noticeable. I’ll have to ponder this a while because I think this car is actually to small and modern for older steam.
Thanks for your input!
Lou,
I might be a little dense in understanding here but earlier when the comment was made about public profile, I just assumed I was being ask about the public profile of our program. I guess I am a bit confused on your reply.
I wasn’t aware your profile was even private. I haven’t checked it or anything?? Hope we didn’t cause any issues.
Greg,
You know it’s funny, I actually was doing 2 things at once here. First off, I was helping direct folks to this site by displaying our program here and second it was the best place to display our photos and not have a Web page bill per month, since some are astronomical.
I wanted to help bring kids and adults to this site and the hobby and kinda help promote the site and help it grow as a Thank you to them for putting up with me.
I know a whole lot of people have come here to view our program including many model railroad manufacturers. Bachmann tells me they are here frequently, among many others. So it seems to work, if the site supervisors don’t mind.
If you can email the info. to me Greg, I will definitely look into it since it is affordable and thanks, again!

You know, I do go to the Aristocraft site, on and off. Not so much recently but you do know, Lewis Polk and I knew each other for many years and still do. I posted many of the product photos for him and some videos from the above You Tube channel on the Aristocraft site as a way to thank Lewis for all his help with our program over 15 years. (We met on the Queen Mary)
You know he is the reason this program excelled in G scale and the reason it got off the ground and became as well known as it is. Aristocraft donated engines, rolling stock, scenic items, structures and parts, when necessary.
I do remember you though and I guess I’ll have to check it out over there again, if it’s still there.
Thanks for letting me know.
Many thanks for the replies!
Ken

We tried to load some photos of our most recent event but I think they may be to many pixels.
Oh well, try again later.
Ken

Ken, my site is with this company I would recommend.

They give me a little extra latitude on storage, and I must have about 3,000 pictures and 750 web pages on my site.

You are billed once a year, and nothing else extra so, it is a special deal for non-profits. Most places would be $100 a month, not $100 a year.

The nice thing is your pictures stay with your file space, never to be at the mercy of companies like PhotoBucket…

Like I offered, contact me by the email in my signature if I can help.
