Matt Kirichok build 2017

Matt, jump is not the word I would use to describe my start. Stumble, galumph, stagger, those would better describe my start. But I done did start, so once I get done Devoning, I know what the next several steps are.

ok, yes, Jump might not be the best word. I did start, just didn’t take pictures (I know the saying … no pics, it didn’t happen). Thus this post.

I have been doing some testing (gee, I guess I could have done this BEFORE this challenge started…there’s one challenge - time management - you can’t manage time, just what you do with it). I decided to make the top portion of the winery look like stucco…

The top half is the foam board/insulation board scuffed up with sandpaper - the bottom half smooth.

From left to right:Kilz primer/sealer spray, spackling, sand grout, hydro cement, latex paint …I’m going with the middle one - sand grout, it seems the right color so all I have to do is seal it once it is applied and drys.

The platform is just about done - the glue is drying now…

Once the glue is dry, I’m going to coat it with latex paint and then hope the weather warms up enough so I can spray some brown paint on it - then a wash of indian ink (black) to highlight the carved in boards. Then start glueing the Taylor stones on the edge. I can’t wait for that part.

Still need to cut out and put together the building and get working on the windows and doors. there is always something.

Matt,

I was going to say either the middle or the upper left corner. So the middle works.

Matt, is that the footprint, the size, of the winery floor? That’s really large! It must be the deck and everything.

That’s gonna be a big build!

yes. This is a big build, the biggest thing i’ve every done. @john, the footprint you see is the building and loading lock. So, yes, everything. The Old Mill Winery expects a big demand for it’s wine, so they felt a big decking was worth the effort.

Nice start Matt(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

For the most part, the platform is complete. Just need to clean up the oozing of the glue between the stones and maybe give it a little paint to darken the ooze. Onto building the building now. The logo is complete. Still working on the windows and need to work on some doors.

Caught a cold, so I’m slowing down.

better move it outside, looks like fitting it thru the door might be problematic after its all done

LoL. It is the biggest I’ve dealt with, but not that big (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif). Only 12" x 40". Even though I’m using insulation board, it is getting a big heavy. Definitely will NOT blow away in the wind.

I’m following and "good luck " Matt!

Great start Matt…

That is one big footprint. Looking like you’re off to the races Matt. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

I have the building walls primed. Just don’t want to move forward until I can get the windows and doors made. Having some issues there.

In the meanwhile, I have been working on the logo/sign that will be on one side of the wall (end of the building). Here it is before I started to weathered it…

and … it still isn’t weathered enough. I’ll post a pic when I feel that it has enough weathering on it.

I also tested putting the logo on the end of a barrel…

…I just need to make sure I center it next time (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-yell.gif)

That looks good Matt. Now splain how you made the logo, please.

Matt,

you done great. Glad to see the logo come out nice.

That Logo looks great Matt. And as asked how did you do it? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Got to get you to do one for mine…,

“Ernest & Julio Gallows & (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)”

Sorry for the delay. Just found time to get on-line to reply.

I googled for a barrel clip art (black and white). Found the one I liked, then cleaned up the image using Paint (I have a windows 10 system).

Then I imported the barrel image into inkscape and ‘vectorized’ it. Then, after trying many times and watching some tube videos, I was able to put the text on a curve. Shrunk the image to about 3" x 3" and then made sure everything was an object (and not text). “Crafts by two” was very helpful video. These two guys are a bit funny and explained things as well and even have a print out summary of how to do what they showed in the video at their web site.

I then imported the SVG file into the software I got my wife for her craft cutter (a Bosskut Gazelle). With the cutter set at slow speed, and low force and using their vinyl blade, I cut some scrape vinyl my wife had then put it on the tin plate you see. I’m still waiting for the “weathering” to finish up. I didn’t want to leave it in the solution overnight so I just put it back in. I’m looking for “just” the right weathering that I’m looking for. It more than likely is good enough at this point, but I’m trying for a bit more.

@Todd,

I can give it a try. Want the text a certain way or some image, or is the smiley what you’re looking for (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
