Large Scale Central

LSC TV documentary special- Devon's MIK 2016

I’ve been badgering around about this, Devon, whether I should mention this or not. Barnabas needs to see a doctor! He has the ankles of an old woman who has been on her feet all day. Oh my!

John

Surfing injuries have caused early on set arthritis in poor Barnabas’ ankles. Get off his case.

I bet Barnabas isn’t as touchy as you are!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)

He should have knobs on his lower knees and the tops of his feet where they rubbed the sanded/waxed board as he paddled out. About 3/4" tall bumps!

North Sandy Eggo county beaches were my haunts from the 70s until I came here 40 years later… I’m just saying … 'cause yore my buddy!(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

John

Shut up John. . . .(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif) OK OK my figure making isn’t up to par. You never mentioned that his hand looks like a club and his flip flop doesn’t fit between the toes right it lines up with his pinky toe.

Far be it from me to say anything disparaging! I was simply concerned with his health! (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Dear friend if you feel picked on, just wait soon you’ll have plenty of fodder from me, what goes around, eh?(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-embarassed.gif)

Here is a teaser leading up to Mondays episode.

Here is the hand hewn log ties that will be used on the indoor. They are made from 3/8 to 1/2locust limbs. They were sanded flat on one side and then dried for 15 hours at 175 in my oven. Then glued to a board and pinned and then sanded to a uniform 1/4".

Here is a look at the flooring. 3/8" wide cedar planks that are slightly less than 1/4 thick to match the hieght of the Llagas CR code 215 Aluminum rail (thanks Brain at Llagas for getting me the track and spikes fast). They are scribed to 10’ scale feet and glued and pinned.

And finally the first side of tin from Dave “the Tin Man” Taylor is aged and installed. Boy was aging this with aid sure an experience. Please use extreme caution if you do this and do one or two at a time, outside. I had a violent reaction with acid going everywhere when I thought I could do the batches two goes, not cool, but no panels ruined. But at the end of the day the panels look great.

Also in this picture the upper window is now in and the trim and shingles on. Also I got one window painted. It takes two coats to cover the plastic and even then things aren’t real even color which in my opinion is Ok gives it texture. I also dry brushed the stone with a light grey.

That looks great!

Heck you’re almost done and I’m still cutting wood!

John

Wow!! Your progressing quite nicely, Devon. I love the wood floor. How did you obtain the color on it?

Its just cedar (which sucks up stain) stained with a very dark nearly black stain and then sanded slightly to distress it. I only sanded just enough to get some of the high spots to show.

LOVIN’ the ties, Dev!

I have a very long way to go. This is the easy fast part. I have a lot of detailing I want to get in.

Very Nice!! Keep up the great work!. I like the ties .What are you using to fasten the roof with?. I was thinking of E-6000…

Looking very good, and congrats on getting alot done in a short time

Dennis

I am attaching the roof with just a white water based silicone, the bath and tile type.

I am having to stay on top of it. I started back to school on the 18th. I am in my last year of a 4 year masters program. 3 semesters to go yippy. But I know I will need to stay diligent to get this where I want it to be.

Nope…

Devon said:“John you do realize Dave said it had to be done Feb 15th, the one in 2016???”

You’ll have 3 days to pack, no problem! It’s all good.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Yer bud,

John

Ha John not quite, no packing required. I started (past tense) back to school on the 18th meaning January 18th. I attend Liberty University in their online education program. So back to school means back on the computer not leaving for school. But between working full time, doing home work, other commitments, and the challenge I need to hit it hard when I can. So I have been keeping up a brisk pace that way I can’t put it aside when I have too.
