just a few more photos
just a few more
looks like a lot of work.
and looks better, than plastic ties would.
your track reminds me of the curtain rails, i used during the first 35 years of largescaling:

Im in the small category…I have about 55 feet of track in phase 1. Sure, we have all dreamt of having a great empire in the back yard, but like Greg said, here in So Cal, LA particularly, we dont have a lot of real estate to work with.
I am building in 3 phases so A) I can keep within a budget and B) start running trains now until the next phase can be finished.
I think there are a lot of people that plan out a large railroad and never lay a piece of track because they are waiting to build it all at once…and then never build it and eventually sell off everything and get out of the hobby.
Life is too short to sit around dreaming and not running trains!!!
You are so right, in fact we had one of those here on LSC not that long ago. Huge empires look impressive, but most of us have to start small and work up to something like that. I tell folks to do it that way on the HO site I haunt. I know, I tried going full bore in N scale and the huge expanses of empty plywood eventually depressed and discouraged me. If I had started small and worked my way up to an empire, I might have had one. Now I am starting small in large scale, and maybe someday I will build expansion plan one or two (they where planned when building the original railroad), or maybe I won’t. But either way I am running trains and having fun.
yes. start s.all. i remember getting my first lionel. then HO.in attic of our house whem growing up in new jersey. the Ngauge. MICO SOFT insimulator spent a few.hundred bucks on the including the train master consile. and. MS never fixed the front coupler issue. i started put in g. 3 or 4 yrs bashas had all the xmasd stuff 60% off i adkrd how about the scienific g s alr battery toy trains. “yes” i brought the last two they had. now i am track power 10 bachmann 10 wheelers. 4 aristocraft alco f1 and afb. south pacific and. one alco f1 union pacific. 4 lionel fo 20. 3 BN one. UP. USA go 30. 3 Lionel. Altantics 4-4-2 , 2 aristocraft critters and. 1 aristocraft doodlebug UP. 5 heavy weight southern pacific passengers. pullman coach dinner, Milwaukee road observation , UP dinner. anoit. 12. hoppers, 7 gondolas, 30 box cars. 2 tankers. 5 flats . bachman, lgb. and usa as well as aristo. 4 cabooses
Yea, I started small. I planned on staying small. Well, the best laid plans of mice and men.
And that is only part of my collection of rolling stock…
Gentlemen, when growing up. I drove my parents, brother and sisters nuts over Trains
both real and. model. i would sit along the NEC AND WATCH all day long. that is when frieght still was on the NEC.I saw. P.R.R change into PennCentral, and saw Conrail. I believe and still think it was a mistake to retire GG1’s my all time favorite, these. big beauiful silent machines were top notch running machines. including the. metro liners. When i was. 6 yrs i would be walking to the midway tower and i would sit with the guy in the tower for hours. by the time i was 7. i would ride to bus to princeton new jersey and ride the. dinkie from princeton to princeton jct. and get on a local and head to Metuchen new jersey visit my grandmother for. 30 mins. walk back and. get back on the train. at 7 yrs old. no one ever asked anything, those were different. times. by 1996 all my n gauge trains were gone
and. i had no railroad stuff until 2001 it was. mico soft train simulator but it had to many flaws. i have. learn alot from this forum. and have had good. help suggestions. and. mow i am making track perimately set in the ground. My railroad is almost the same as the real deal due to making my own track having to engineer the. ground where travks. cross keeping grades 2 percent or lower. and ireally want some that will work and run for. many years. I know some of you are already saying "track power DC Analog. on aluminum rods. Dont. knock it, it works and analog i know…if i can just get. my bipolar leds working correctlly when i wire two together so when polarity changes the two leds change colors for bi-directional signals. when lived back east o thought it was really cool to 4 main line track with overhead cantary electric power. its cleaner its fast butfor modeling its a lot of work. so it was hard for me to watch and understand Southern Pacific run with only a single mainline with passing tracks. but gifured it out of course. and. yes g scale is very expensive.
I have a small, in the city of Peoria AZ back yard, with a pool and have my “empire” all lined out on paper at just over 300ft of main line, a lot of which I want double tracked, closer to 500 or so. Besides the obvious costs and I too am suffering from the fact that they want the money before they ship the track( why will they not ship it now and do installments like a car payment?) . Since the yard is long and narrow there is only a couple of places available to loop the track and I want 10’ curves, I am going to have a long time before any actual trains happen. Whatever I build I will consider it small to meduim. There are people here in this area who have some really nice, small layouts and a couple of large and Dennis Sirrines HUGE empire, which is still expanding, so I know I will never have a big layout , but as long as it is something i have my fun with I will be happy. I like Devons idea of building stuff while waiting for the money to come into the Track Fund. Come on Ebay/ Craigslist!. Still kicking myself for not getting a lot of track off craigslist a year ago from someone moving.
buying online means. shipping costs so double the pruce and the you have to include metal wheels and kadee upgrades. never use. plasyic wheels or traction tires in Arizona unless you are powering with battery or stream only, they black goo allover the track and electric picks plus they will melt. and never use conductive fluids like. lamp oil. it take forever to it get off.
Jim, is your layout on the list for thr tour next week? we will be down on Sunday
no it is not at this time however if you like to see it i would be more then happy show it to you and anyone else. i plan to go and look at the layouts in saddle brook never saw them before ,the others in town i have seen them more then twice.

Well, as you age your layout seems to get larger, without adding any track. Might factor that in. Some have made too large a layout and find they can’t maintain it. Start with a 150’ that is deisgned to add on to and see what you think after awhile.
please excuse my spelling and grammer due to usong my cell phone of the time.
My railroad is a Roundy Round Rail Road.
