Weres Bella Vista in relation to Palm Springs? Might not have to pay postage.

Just south of Orie-gun

A friend tied the motor of my Lionel Atlantic down with three zip ties and now it pulls great!

The Bobber caboose makes a great lamp. I’ve made five so far and am constantly being asked to make more. BTW, if you have any you want to get rid of for $10 , email me.

Makes great bash material, too.

I have the Bachmann track only because they came with my Big hauler and Thomas set. The only thing the track is good for is display track.
Had a Big Hauler 10 wheeler - was my first and got me started in G scale. Also made me realise how much I hate Bachmann engines - garbage. Also made me more aware of who had the best deals.
I own a Bachmann Logging Caboose. Actually liked it but had to kitbash it.
Aristo R1 turnouts - have one and use it but for my junkyard siding so does not see much traffic.
Had a New brite set - got it for next to nothing. Still cant find a use for it, never stayed on the tracks. I cant believe how much people will spend on this stuff.
Never had Lionel G scale.
I have a hundred plastic wheels that came with rolling stock - work well once weathered and placed on layout as junk etc…
Hook and Loop I give away when I can. They do work well but look ugly.

Had a Rooster, hated the bastard, always tried to attack me. He has since passed away RIP bastard. Never replaced learned my lesson. Oh wait that was not on the list LOL

LOL…

I missed Mik second post at top of this page.

I even had that Buddy L engine - one word junk.
The Rogers I have to defend, I like it a lot. It runs very well and looks great as a logging engine once kitbashed. Its a fun little engine to run. The old REA I feel runs better even though the say it had issues. The Rogers seems to be one of those you either love it or hate it.
I still like the bachmann Bobbers - some great looking ones posted here. Then yet Bachmann Rolling stock you cant go wrong for the price, detail and metal wheels.
Bachmann did something right with the Thomas engine though. I would consider the Davenport and Porter have not heard of many issues with them or do they have issues I missed reading about?

Glad to hear HLW did not make the list. Their still my faverite once you make them less toylike.

I’d add a vote toward junking the Aristo 0-4-0. All the ones I saw (pre recent upgrades) have been disasters on wheels.

That's mostly because folks generally DON'T re-sell the GOOD ones... They just try to fob the TURDS off on some OTHER poor slob! :P I've purchased 5, and until recently still had two - guess which ones I kept ;) (I just didn't lie about it, and took a bath on the sale price)

Some folks may think I’m bashing Botchmann because they’re on the list so often. Wrong. It actually makes me kind of sad that they’ve managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on so many items. Better gears might cost them 10c per locomotive - a whole dollar at most, and gain them a lot by reducing bad publicity. Yet it keeps happening. Aristo-Craft’s quality control problems are about the same. Someone along the way is thinking VERY short-term out in Philly

The one I really don’t understand, though, is Lionel. They seem quite determined to throw away generations of brand recognition for quality for a few dollars today – as fast as humanly possible… or if failing at that, as fast as UNhumanly possible.

I was really fortunate in this hobby. The large scale retailer in my area only sold LGB. Yes, it cost a little more, but my 2-4-0 Southern still works after 7 years. Even has the original traction tire. My track power was an LGB 1 amp unit and still works today. I learned a lot from the club that existed in my area. Regards, Dennis.

I don’t own a bobber cabeese.
I gave my New Brite engine & tender to my grandson he loves it, and don’t worry about him breaking it.
Most cars one gets has plastic wheels, run them till they are junk the get steel ones.
I have some B’mann track. U want to buy it?
HLW only needs to expand their line-up.
We need more good stuff. The gooder the better. ( I bet you won’t find that word in your spell check, neither will U find goodly.)

And for a comment on Dennis’s remark I totally agree with him.
I still didn’t get my Shay back yet it’s been 2 month so far since I sent the loco back in.It didn’t work right from new.
More Chinese Junk…

.... but people buy anyway.

I was thinking about this while driving yesterday. Not to bash the manufacturers, they tried… BUT there are an awful lot of pretty crummy things out there on the 2nd hand market that folks just keep buying… even though we all know that they’re really bad.

My top (or bottom) 10 list:

  1. Bachmann’s track has to be #1 on the raspberry list ---- just because
  2. Aristo short turnouts (r-1 switches) - not even their own stuff really likes them!
  3. Lionel 0-6-0s, very few locos on the market run worse, and chances are pretty good that Lionel made those too, except…
  4. 1st and 2nd generation Big Haulers… not even really very good for parts, unless you need a roadname they haven’t offered since, or are desperate.
  5. Plastic wheelsets, any brand
  6. Bachmann bobber cabeese (about as useless as tits on a boar, but everyone seems to own at least two)
  7. Hook 'n look couplers - they WORK great (and I use them!) but…
  8. Mamod live steam 0-4-0, especially ‘as manufactured’ - They CAN be made to run, but it costs almost as much as the base loco to do it!
  9. New Brite and Scientific just about anything
  10. Bachmann Coaling tower - It’s O-scale always was… their cardboard buildings probably belong somewhere here too!

See now if you had a track up high you wouldn’t worry so much on looks as functionality. I can’t see my couplers on my “L”.
Any way I don’t have all that much money, so if I change all the stuff that annoys me, I won’t have anything left to add on.
Any way Green Bay is ahead on the S B

I think you'll find there are a lot of Pittsburgh fans with mixed emotions. They want the Steelers to win, BUT seeing Roethlingsburger getting his immature, obnoxious butt handed to him is kind of satisfying too......

Kim says, "That bleeping bleep bleep threw the game on purpose!!!" Think he wants traded?

It doesn’t fit in your list, exactly, but a pet-peeve is the MSRP on Bachmann’s website versus the street price is such a wide margin, I am certain many considering getting into LS backed off when they read $900 for an Annie. I dunno???

I don’t mind MSRP being in lalaland as much as MAP (minimum advertised price) shenanigans. Sherline says you MUST advertise the same price they do… so why would a customer ever consider buying off you? Good for them, bad for their dealers… or IS the point that they don’t WANT independent dealers anymore?

Actually, Sherline instituted that policy about 4 years ago in response to a few (3?, I think) clowns who were advertising their stuff at $10 over wholesale, having it drop shipped, offering really crappy customer service and giving the company a bad name because many folks ARE too stupid to realize they were dealing with Fast Freddy Flim Flam, not Sherline. They just went too far with it.

As for MSRP not being the street price - depends where you shop. I know of two places that charge full MSRP plus a premium… but they are the ONLY shop within a 50 or so mile radius, so they can get away with it.

None of my garden railroad stock or ancillary items have been bought from the dealer in my town - his prices 'aint good. Many of you know how high UK prices are and bearing in mind over the last four years I have bought brass track, over 70 items of rolling stock (sold about 20 of those items since) plus eight locos so you can see he has lost a lot a good customer. He was vague when questioned about prices so I left his store.

It pays to surf the web when commencing our hobby: that way you get to know who are the better priced dealers; who actually have premises and who are knowledgeable and helpful about the hobby. I have only dealt with those (two in fact in the UK and two in The States) whose prices were fair and most competitive, who stock only the larger scales and generally don’t dabble with all scales and gauges. This means , over here at least, that they usually have a reasonable stock. (Dependant of course on the importer).

I have only bought one second hand item - from someone I know - and avoid auction type sites.

Big celebrations today in Green Bay lol Go! Packers.

Talk about old junk, here is my pride and Joy New Brite boose

I bought this used at a train meet thing many years ago. This is what got me started in large scale trains. This is the only car of the train that I have left. It was a New Brite electric. I was thinking about making it better. Maybe lights / interior, or maybe just letting it the same. What do you guys think?

I’ve rebuild alot of Scientific stuff, Bee-mann straight track is great for storage,

The thing about the Lionel 060 is that the motor is great, really smooth, its those dam brass wheels that just wreck the engine and they never ever fixed it!

Aristo R1 switches ARE complete rubbish!
