Andy, was reducing weight successful, and why do you think that worked?
Steve, Don’t know as of yet, as I have not tested them in a train … Our thoughts were, the cars were too heavy and caused the clothesline effect, as they were back in the train… Will try and remember to post the effects, once I get it tested out… Just remember, I am old and stuff… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
You’re not old Andy, just ornery.

Lou, probably both… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-sealed.gif)
The real railroads, and trucks with multiple trailers, have a rule that the heaviest goes up front. That operational rule might have prevented the string-lining.
I agree with trucks, and baggage carts, but I’ve seen empty TOFC’s and Deepwells in trains between the locomotives and loaded freight cars…
And, (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)the tank cars were empty at the time… hehehe (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Trainmake up rules are rather interesting and can vary from territory to territory. Makes for some interesting switching if the Yardmaster messes up which direction the train is going, and you have to reswitch everything so that it’s compliant! Well I learned about that rule years ago when I was reading about a train wreck. It seams the locomotive had a fault, it momentarily lost power for some reason, and slowed down. The loaded boxcars at the rear of the train didn’t slow down, so the empty flat cars behind the locomotive ended up being scattered beside the tracks. I don’t think its a written rule, its more of a recommended safe practice. I make sure that my scratch-built boxcars, and the K-Line reefer I have, are at the rear of my trains, since they are the lightest cars I have.
