OK, fixed
  1. Most Original - B Ralphs Goat Pen
  2. Best Use of Materials- D Mike Pumping Station
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - A Bobs freight
  4. Best of Show -H Eds depot

I had a hard time deciding because they are all very nice. Everyone did a great job.

This is tough - Everyone did a really nice job.

  1. Most Original - Not sure I understand the category ; but Ralph’s is unique
  2. Best Use of Materials - Shawn - Love the rusted metal roof and bottle caps
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - Has to be Bob’s Harlem Transfer log
  4. Best of Show -Bob, with an honorable mention to Shawn
  1. Most Original - B. Ralph’s livestock pen & office
  2. Best Use of Materials - D. Mik’s pumping station
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - D. Mik’s pumping station
  4. Best of Show - n/a

Okay, I don’t know if I can vote for the same project in two categories, but I am anyways. And no, I am not a compensated customer for this review.

OK I have thought about this for most of the day and have followed all the build logs since the challenge started.

  1. Most Original- Ralph
  2. Best use of materials- Eddie
  3. Most interesting build log - Shawn
  4. Best in show - Bob

1…Gotta give it to Ralph for most original as I’ve never seen a goat farm serviced by a R.R. but there’s a prototype for everything right?

2…Eddies Bamboo forks from the Dollar Store for Gingerbread trim in the gables is way too cool!!!

3…As for Shawn…what can I say ? I love his use of materials but I enjoy following his build log (along with his previous ones) he doesn’t seem to focus as much on the prototype as he does his own R.R. He is straight forward with some whimsical and some factual but over all makes excellent choices for his R.R. (It was a toss up between Shawn and Eddie for 2 and 3 but I loved that Gothic gable trim from Bamboo forks) Never seen Eddies RR

4… As for Bob’s build… (couldn’t find the original post of the rules and doesn’t matter as they have changed from the start) either way I love big buildings and the basic industrial drab boring look does it for me even though I love Victorian architecture as well.

Them goats got to get to town somehow

Unchanged except for a few minor things - like extending the deadline so as not to annoy all the swmbo on St Valentine’s Day. Bob was given a pass on size because it’s his board, and Robbie really wanted to do a locomotive… and the as-yet-unclaimed bonus points for giving you a swirly

True :)

Ditto Shawn,

  1. Most Original - B Ralphs Goat Pen
  2. Best Use of Materials- D Mike Pumping Station
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - A Bobs freight
  4. Best of Show -H Eds depot

Bob C.

First off, congratulations to all who participated. You are all winners.

  1. Most Original - Ralphs Goat Pen, who would have ever thought.
  2. Best Use of Material, Mik’s pumping station. Making something believable out of almost nothing takes talent and imagination.
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - Bob,s freight shed.
  4. Best of Show - Eddies depot, imaginative use of materials and very well done.

Ron S.

I agree with Ron…you all stepped up to the challenge and the rest of us just sat on the sidelines.

  1. Most original - Ralph, never seen a goat pen along a RR siding, but Mik’s build was close.
  2. Best use of materials - Mik, he can make just about anything from nothing, but I liked what Shawn did with his station.
  3. Building log - Mik, always keeps us informed on what is happening. And throws in some history as well. But Bob introduced us to a new building material.
  4. Best of Show - Bob, that plain ordinary frieght depot will make a stunning addition to his RR.

Sorry if I seem a little wishy-washy but it was hard to decide.

Iffen I can teach somebody a little history (or anything else) without it being a chore - Or even better, making them laugh as they learn. - then the project was a success. As a few folks have already noticed, the entire AV saga is set up that way. History, real history, is what holds all the rest of it together. (well, that and Welder glue. hehe)

For my picks.

  1. Most Original - J. Korm’s hotel - not everybody can model stuff they’ve never even seen.
  2. Best Use of Materials - F. Forrest’s crossing
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - G. Shawn’s station-- interesting, but on topic? lol!
  4. Best of Show - H. Eddie’s depot
  1. Shawns - Best use of a bottle cap
    2.Ralphs - Most original
    3.Geoffs - best of show
  2. Miks - best use of materials

first off great job by everyone and thank you Mik for doing it.

  1. Most Original - Ralph
  2. best use of material - All of them. The rules said you could only spend 10 (later upped) on supplies. So we all had to use what we had on hand or could come up with.
Bob used something new for the first time, I had never used yard signs before. We all looked at what we had and did our best. I realy cant pick
    one person.
  3. Most interesting build log - Bob, Krom and Mik. You three did a great job and followed the rules and resurch on your build.
  4. best of show - Shawn. The little add ons really make it for the pictures. Maybe we should have follow up oictures this summer once we can all get them out on the railroad.

Again thanks Mik and great job everyone.

Bump! voting ends tonight… any last minute ones?

Almost forgot to vote!

  1. Most Original - Ralph
  2. Best Use of Materials – Shawn -
  3. Most Interesting Build Log - Mik
  4. Best of Show - Shawn

Sooooooooo,
Looking through some of LSC more recent posts, and in reference to my 2024 Mik Entry, I was in IKEA today with “herself”, and stumbled across this…

…a bamboo cutting board. And I thought I’ll go home and search through and see what the LSC gurus have said about bamboo….

…and ended here in a Mik Challenge, no less.
…oops and on edit got off the topic, but will return to it below…

Here’s what I learned so far from the Gurus…

  1. We HATE BAMBOO if it is growing in our garden railway.
  2. We LOVE BAMBOO if it in the shape a skewer and can be used in numerous projects. We especially like it if the bamboo had some kebab on it before hand but are willing to use new in box skewers.
  3. We think BAMBOO can be used for ties (sleepers) and @Louis_Sommers was going to give it a go in 2014 and maybe throw them in the dishwasher, but the historical records don’t answer the question.
  4. We noted @smokey Eddie used BAMBOO silverware on his roof, but I think it was for gingerbread… (and I kinda like that idea.) Clearly it was a hit with the LSC.
  5. Looking up BAMBOO can give lead you to a Mik challenge will invariably lead you off topic as I want to see @cabby Ralphs entry too.

Does anyone have the photos of this challenge? (Phew, almost got off topic!)
