James craps out -- So now what?

I’m just curious but why hasn’t someone mentioned another option here, namely adding a power brick to the tender and PUSH the James engine around the track?

A 2 axle USA brick with the skates would give good power pick up or an AC cnetercab brick, could be fitted under the tender, and wire connections to the locos electrical pick ups would give the engine 8 or 10 place pickups depending on the block used, as long as the motor worm gear or the axle worm gear is removed and the motor wires on the James are cut, the eyes should still work the same, I would add some extra self adhesive tire weights on the inside to give the engine more stability as its pushed around the layout.

In all of this, does anyone know if Lionel still supplies parts for Thomas and James? Or how to get in touch with them. I’ve e-mailed an inquiry from their website a couple of times, but I suspect that’s just a waste of effort.
The website does have parts diagrams.

Welll, they must supply SOME parts…The Thomas axle/wheel/gear assembly I ordered showed up today. Actually a pretty good turnaround time. I’ll get around to painting and installing it sometime soon (I’ve heen handed a full dance card for this weekend) and let you know how well it works out.

Vic, Actually Thomas on the display at Niagara Hobby in Buffalo has a custom painted LGB tender that does just that. Push him around. He seems quite happy about it though? They removed the motor, left the gearing so his eyes still move and away he goes!
