J&B RR Construction Log

Logging branch out of Occuatan?

Screen looks good Bruce, keep the lookie-loes on the sidewalk

AH HA!..You said your RR was finished!!!
You fibber!!!
Now get some ivy on the trellis!

Looks like a good spot to contemplate the switching moves at Jackson…

I lost a Jap Maple in the middle of the new part of the layout. I’m just glad I wasn’t the cause as I got some grief last year while I was working around it.

Soooooooooooo, when the first operating session???

Nice addition Bruce. Shame the plants didn’t survive.
Why not a new lumber yard ‘NOT LOWES’ We really have what you need.

“I’m seriously thinking of some track that might go along the fence…maybe add an industry or two.”

I’m thinking the new industries would not be part of the yard or even connected to it? So is this a siding out of Occoquan?

I like the lattice work… Seats are always nice, since I’m old and stuff…

Thanks. Another fun project. Just looking back through history…those laurels looked great 4 years ago:

Compared to last week:

Good catch, Ric. Exactly what I’m thinking, but I think I’d have to remove too many plants to make this happen.

Oooh…got to have that soon. What’s best - a weekday or a weekend?

Remove them or chainsaw bonsai trimming for right of way? You know that is really two different things.

I'm soooooo ready to retire!

Dude, sorry - you’ve got to wait your turn, you’re just a youngster. There are a whole lot of us in front of you and we need people like you working to pay for our long times of living a life of extravagance and guilty pleasures. Take a number and wait your turn.

Got some trim pieces and finished up the screen. Today we put some mulch around it and Jean planted some English ivy at the base. Hopefully it won’t be too long until it starts growing up the screen.

Meanwhile the maisus has just popped out. We have some white and some purple…

I took care of a few problem areas on the layout. I built some cribbing to hold the ballast in place. I just made a box out of some cedar strips and plopped it in place.

Over at Miracle Chair, I’ve had some issues with the ballast washing away. I had a bunch of stone left over from my mill. I took a small strip of black acrylic I had and just glued the stone in place with some silicone cement. It’s just a low wall, but I think it turned out nice.

I really like that bench/screen. You’re bringing it up here in a month, right?

Bob,

I’m sorry for the economic down, but its kind of nice to have you around. It kind of reminds me of the old days.

I'm pretty sure that it won't fit in the van now that it's assembled. ;)

It’s pretty quick to make one…if you have the materials on hand.

So how many largescalers does it take to make a screen/seat?
We will see in due time!!

Well, weekdays the traffic’s bad down there, then again, on weekends the traffic’s bad down there, so it doesn’t much matter to me…

I keep asking myself when am I gonna do one. This time of year is tough with all the little yard things that have to get done.

I haven’t had a chance to run a train yet on mine. And the weather is supposed to turn ugly this weekend.

How many brownie points do I get if I go down there on Wed after Bruce leaves and load it into my pick-em-up truck and haul it up?

I know what you mean about having stuff to do. I need to get out and do some maintenance - some spikes are popping up. But, I ran around the track today and I only had one derailment - caused by a joiner that had slipped off. Once I fixed that, no more problems. It’s an early spring. In 2007, I took this picture on May 6.

Today, I took another as the Shay ran through the Azaleas. They’re not quite as open, but still nice.
