Does anyone add “sound” to these things? It would seem sort of cool, but maybe it’s just neat enough riding behind?

Mine will have a Phoenix Soundsystem in it. It’s almost a necessity as some places require working bell and horn. By the time you install them as separate items you’ve spent the price of the Phoenix. Besides, I have one I can pull out of a locomotive that I don’t use much any more.
There will be plenty of pictures. I figure it will take me about a week to get the frame disassembled, painted and then reassembled. Day one is behind me. I may have to build an engine stand before I get too far along. The table I’m building it on will hold the bare locomotive without any problems, but I’m afraid that when I add batteries it will bring the house down as they more than double the weight of the locomotive.

Beleive or not Bruce, some of the 7 1/2" clubs do hold operating sessions. The Illinois Live Steamers comes to mind. When we visited the place during the last convention they were adding more sidings for just that purpose. Train Mountain in Oregon also comes to mind , but I’m not sure they do operations but the layout up there is plenty big enough for it. Most of the diesels had sound systems.

Well, well, well that gives new meaning to “Is it real or just outside?”

You would not beleive…
Train Mountain is the group that I had in mind when I specified the need for horn and bell. All my equipment will be built to meet their specifications. If it can run there, it can run anywhere. They have a published list of specifications and requirements that I am following. I’m hoping that next year I can go to one of their week long work and run sessions.

Off hand I’d say that sure beats running on a R1 circle.
I have a couple of other options too that are not as glamorous as Train Mtn., but darn better than the tiny circle I’ll have. But at least I can run when I want and I’ll also have a test bed. For me, this all adds up to fun!
Just adding 1 more picture. I’ve taken the frame apart, painted it and reassembled and tightened everything up. With the frame behind me it’s time to start on the body.
I am jealous…!!
Must be mighty tempting to hook up a battery and see those wheels turn…
From this point it would take about an hour to get it to run…minus it’s body. I picked up the batteries yesterday. It would look something like this:
Guess there are others that are too antsy to wait until the locomotive is complete.
Just a Happy 4th of July tease. I’ve been working on the locomotive and it’s coming along…slooooooowly. But it’s making progress. Body is glued together, doors made, base is done as far as I can go at the moment and starting roof trim.
Wow, that’s going to look really cool when it’s finished!
Locomotive is moving along quite nicely…even if it’s slow. Thought I would add a new pic to continue the tease and to detract from the cow pie slinging contest elsewhere.
Cool! Kinda looks familiar
I like box cabs… But yours is a mini against the big yellow bird. I’ve got one of the Thomas Yorke box cabs coming soon…I hope. It should size out fairly close to yours…maybe a tad shorter. That will be one of my many winter projects this coming winter…including finishing my box cars. So many models to build and so little time…
Hmmmm. Bob, I just looked at yours beside Bruces box cab. Although the angle is really bad it appears yours is somewhat larger than Bruces. Is yours 7/8ths?
Yea, that one is 7/8ths. I still need to work on the drivetrain and all, but cosmetically its done… well, as far as any RR project is done.
Bob, what are your overall dimensions on the car body?..width, length and height less the doodads on the roof.
