Large Scale Central

If you're around 50 years old, you might find this really funny

One thing I’ve learned from playing out a lot in the DC area, as a semi-pro musician, is that there are A LOT of really great musicians no one has ever heard of. Guys who could smoke most professionals, working day jobs and playing for love and grocery money. DC has a lot of great guitar pickers, who play what the great Danny Gatton used to call “redneck jazz.” Hill folks who moved to the DC area around WWII. It also has a unique local black music tradition too. Most cities do. It’s gratifying that mass culture hasn’t wiped that all out

they are calling for 8 inches in DC, which will pretty much cause mass paralysis

One of my USMC Sergeants called cadence in the blues. It was really a treat to listen to, and often eased the pain of a heavy pack at the end of a long march or hike.

I miss that. We had a local spot here called Sunset Park where a few of the headliners in Nashville used to perform. In the summer I could hear them from my back porch. I was always up there when a Bluegrass Band was playing and the “parkin lot pickin” was just as great. Unfortunately the roof caved in a few years back and the old gent that owned it decided to sell. It’s now a Giant Supermarket.

Ken, Did you beat the weather home? Looks like the East Coast is in for a snow event. I might see 2-4 inches. They are expecting up to 7 inches in Charlotte. Ralph

Yes I did, barely. It was snowing on my way home from Elizabeth, NJ after off-loading my grapefruit. Had to hop off I-95 to I- 295 because less snow was accumulating on that roadway for some reason. Snow is not fun in an empty 18 wheeler. Calling for 6-10" of the stuff here, but the woodstove is fired up and I’m nice and toasty…

Ken,
Glad to hear you are warm and toasty at home.
I-85 through Spartanburg is a parking lot. Trucks just parked in the road. Ice under the snow.
Northbound lanes are blocked for three counties.
