Devon,
Make sure you build it strong. Howe trusses have a way of letting go occasionally.
Although, on second thought, a failed span on an abandoned branch might be a great point of interest for a garden railroad.
Bob
Howe?
I had that thought. Take one of my trashed bridges, fix it up a little, and have it trying to span my pond.
Thanks to a present I got in the mail yesterday from Bob H. I now have plans for a 36" bridge. I needed 35" but I think I can fudge one end of the layout easy enough to find the inch I need. I still have a few wedding decorations to make for the daughters wedding, but I think I can start making it tonight. May not come together real fast but once the wedding is over in two weeks then I can devote more time to it. I am going to make it out of redwood so will need to stop by my supplier and pick up a 2X4. Will be a fun build.
Thanks everyone for the input. Stay tuned.

Cool!
I look forward to watching the bridge come together.
Steel would be easier but I understand the era he is modeling !

Devon ain’t doing steel John !
Made that clear at least I thought he did ?
Joe who?
Seems there is “steel” on the bottom but perhaps steel looks like wood and bends like it as well ?
Just a thought

He was tempted …besides youngster, these are iron. Devon liked the Fink Truss and as long as I was pushing iron … well I’m hooked on Bollmans.
Man ya just don’t know what yer missin’.
It’s ok, Joe knows.
Well I am/was tempted. Not for this build. This one has to be a wood truss/rod bridge. Not only an era but the prototype I am loosely basing this on used woods howes. Iron or steel would have been way over budget and way harder to aquire. Wood was everywhere .
With that said i could see sneaking a steel truss bridge in somewhere.
I do like the Fink

All the cast bits can be printed, round and bar stock is available.
So is it started yet?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

No John, I haven’t started yet (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif). That will be one of those “someday” projects. I was thinking of how to do the cast bits, and hand’t thought about printing. I have two friends in our local club that are getting quite good with their printers. If I were to do one I like the trusses underneath and doing a deck bridge. That to me is very visually interesting. I would really need to learn how all the fiddly bits went together so I can draw them up on Sketchup so they can print them. Would be a very fun build.
But then again a have already got a lot of half built projects that would be fun to build.
Here is a link to some great detail photos of the Fink deck truss John C. posted a pick of. This would be a very fun bridge design to build. Fink Truss Lynchburg VA

The seed has been planted grasshopper, my job begins …(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-tongue-out.gif), nudge nudge.
Are we there yet?
Fiddly bits are the tubing at the bottom to maintain the separation between the uprights. The ‘pin’ goes through the rods and them.
I see you collecting the parts when you need breaks, then once pinned together the deck is another ‘break’.
Got that dull old Howe done yet?(https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-surprised.gif)
C’mon man we got stimulating stuff to do! (https://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)
