Tony
Steve is by passing the arsito switch I belive to solve that problem with the batt feediing the track power on one side so he should be fine.
Geoff.
Maybe, maybe not. Who knows with AristoCra…
Steve is actually bypassing the polyswitches so that the loco nearest the trail car does not trip with the load for both locos passing through just one Polyswitch.
Matthew.
They sure do. At least in model form.
After all they do have 6 x wheels per truck. Surely that is near enough accuracy. Is it not?

Tony, you are such a cynic.
BTW, when run off a trail car, my SD-45s have not cared which way they are facing. I routinely run my SD-45s butt to butt from the same trail car, and I’ve run them elephant style with a Dash-9 in the lead. (Drank a lot of battery juice with 2 SD-45’s and a Dash 9, but was fun while it lasted. I got about an hour and a half with 16 volts and 4500 mA.) I think it will be the same for the Dash-9’s. Film at eleven.

Mad Wolf,
How come your batteries ain’t charged when you come over here, or run on the modules, etc?
Ducking and running…
I’ve got witnesses. Lots of ‘em…
Still runnin’.
OK - I’m still confused…
On my RS-3’s and RDC’s and on SD-45 the cables will not plug into each other - all of the plugs are the same sex (Male). I needed to buy pigtails and wire up MU cables.
Do the newer units (SD-'s an D-9’s) plug directly into each other ???
Jon,
My brand new, still in the box, Aristo E-8 has females at each end.
Therefore another E-8 wouldn’t PNP without a short adapter. I think the SD 45 is the same.
Not sure about the Dash.
But the instructions for the E-8 say it’s (the plug) is for MUing.
Thanks John - That’s how I thought they all were but the way this conversation was going it sounded as if they would plug directly into each other. Yours are just like mine. I mixed up the sex
Yeah, the sex of mu plugs is “Cornfusin” to say the least!! The males, as we know em are actually feamales, according to all the sites that sell em, and the females, as we know are considered Males??? Go figure, but dat is the way the world is at dis time anyways!! In simple terms, the receiving end is a male, and the insertion end is a male!! Kinda AC/dewsey !! Hah LOL Regal And then some suppliers have now mixed the red and black to NOT be as we were all taught they were. Just had an instance on my pa/pb once mu’d the A unit ran betwitxed of the B so had to swap the red and black wires around so dey both went roundy round the same way when power applied. Yikes What Next??? Regal

I was going to argue with John, but figured what’s the point! Technically, the side with the pins is male. The fact that the female plug inserts inside the shell of the male plug has nothing to do with it
Only Aristocr…
USA is standard r/b, as well as the plugs you can buy at suppliers.

SD70 Conversion video is up on youtube and mogules site

Dear All, Bear with me on this polarity stuff. It becomes pretty easy once you get it. This is an example, not official anything. Don’t know what your LS or NMRA “direction of travel”/polarity is, don’t care. This is just a demonstration that North/South rails - touching right/left wheels translates fine and dandy into a battery system if you use an identical two pin polarized plug on each end of your speed-matched locos. The plugs would each have one male pin and one female pin. The two identical plugs, facing each other, would mate. Example:
Again, an example. There may be more robust connectors out there that will fill the bill. front male—red side----female + DC motor _ female–white side—male If you have a second loco identically wired, hooked up elephant style (nose to tail), it is simple to see they would follow each other, as red is connected to red, white to white. Hooking them up back to back, not as easy to imagine, but the red side of the forward facing loco will be connected to the white side of the backward facing loco, etc., causing the backward facing motor to receive reverse polarity juice ! This will cause the motor, and therefore the loco itself, to “back up”, which is really the forward direction of the first loco it is connected to. Viola! Matched directions no matter which way the second loco is facing. Hope this helps. Sincerely, Joe Satnik Edit: spelling
Just went and looked on brand new dash 9 males (what is considered males) on both ends. Soooooooooooo If you make you up a female custom wire with females (what is considered females) on both ends, Dat prolly would work in any given sititation!! And I have done this!! Regal
Guy’s to eliminate Cornfusion read Paul Norton’s excellent website, of which the MU pluggy thingy is discussed here below on polarity, and some once in awhile happenings. I used his site to MU my pa/pb which is on the same frame setup as the sd70 mac, I discovered the pa ran backwards from the pb, which just entailed how to switch around the pins, and he covers this also and how to’s Excellent webpage article and very detailed and accurate info!! Geoffy boy, just replying to Mr. Radder’s post here, trying to get to the nitty gritty, and the heart of the Cornfusion is all!! Regal
