Happy Labor Day

I took the boy to Williams Grove today for the steam tractor show. It was a beautiful day and they were running their sawmill among other things.

Had no idea that our name was on the side of a steam tractor??

Do you have anymore pictures of the sawmill. I need the ideas for mine. If you have more post on my logging ops thread. thanks

Great Labor Day, ran trains most of the day while the ribs cooked on the grill. Hope everyone has one just as good!

Cook out here was fun. Planned on running trains…but was too busy =(

Pictures??

David,

Did you want pictures of the Ribs or Trains? Didn’t take any when I’m out by myself I usually don’t take the camera with.

Spent all day at the Botanic. It was a beautiful day and many people came out. What fun!

I worked…

That makes both of us although my weekend starts tomorrow.

Fred, since you described so well how to do those bridge rails I’ll have to go back and do mine! Thanks!
How much should those end rails be bent?

Doug;

It is best to look at the way the real pikes bend the ends of the guard rails, but if in doubt, just start the bend on both rails, about 1 and 1/2 inches from the ends, and bend horizontally, towards the centre of the track. if you have cut the rails to a certain length, it is best that the length allows the the ends of the rails when bent, to end on a tie, where again you can spike them down.
Don’t be afraid to spike into a plastic tie. if you predrill the holes in the tie with the correct sized drill; the spikes will fit tightly into the hole and be quite secure.

Some of the real railroads not only bend the rails together, towards the centre line, but also bend them down, between the ties, at the very end.
I don’t bother with this bend, as it is just a bit more trouble.

If you look at the pictures on the OVGRS web page at : www.ovgrs.org/ I do believe some guard rails are pictured there someplace…

I hope that helps a bit…

I was off Monday, but I'll have to work this Saturday. A Holiday just means one less day off the next week. Ralph
