Gardern R.R. needs a overhead haircut

At my old house in Connecticut we had two (or three?) big pines right behind the house. they were at least two feet in diameter at the trunk and less than 6inches from the house…not a good thing aside from leaning over the house and dropping pineneedles all over everything.

We decided to have them removed. OK our house was located eight feet from our rear boarder. A stone wall took the last foot and about 3 of those remaining feet taken up by trees.

We hired some guys who hired a crane to lift the peices over the house onto the drive way in front to cut and chip and haul away. We decided it might be wise to be away from the house during this operation…we took a walk and could see that crane for a mile or so, which is saying something in New England. the guys working came across a raccoon family in one of those trees as he was climbing with his saw!

I think that job was almost $10 grand OOF!!!

Now I live in the woods and do not worry half as much!

@ Eric: Ouch!

Fred had a number of old pine trees removed from his yard, but couldn’t do much about a 70 foot spruce right in the center of the Western Division. So a couple of years ago Mother Nature took it down for him.

Lucky for Fred the branches guided the tree between his house and the garage. As the Insurance Adjuster could not assess the damage to the house with the tree in the way, the Insurance Company paid to have it removed. Turned out the only damage was some dinted eavestroughing.

With the tree gone and Nelson Yard uplifted, the entire area was rebuilt.

No need to worry about the new shade trees.

Eric Schade Wow… Ya that could be a problem.

Funny that just wild animals don’t like there home messed with.

You say there was no real R.R. damage ? " Looking at the photos, that remarkable. "

I guess we created our own mess due to our property was just a vacant field out in the country 45 yrs ago…

So we planted… and planted… and planted and built fish ponds and a reservoir out back for watering ditches.

Then for some reason we got lots of shade and some trees over 50 ft tall… Now we are trimming all of the time. But… hey, we got shade in the 105 heat in the summer we have sometimes tho… lol.

Paul Norton Boy… that’s a mess. Boy do I know how he felt. That could make your railroad projects go in the Red real fast for a few yrs.

If it wasn’t for a tree climber we know here, guess we would be in the same boat and would cost to much to hire a trimmer due no real way to get a bucket truck back to the trees.

We still have one more yet to trim and yup… It’s right over one part of the layout and main walk way.

Guess really can’t have everything the way one likes to have it. Have to give up something some where.

We still have one more tree to trim over the layout.

This is the one with the Ive on left side of the photo, it that leaning over part of the layout.

There is lot of large pine cones that work like booms beside all of the pine needles.

Yesterday we did some more trimming and went out to check on how it looks and today Peacocks are back.

The back fence nabor been feeding them for the last 10 yrs or so and was hoping he keep them there… They are very messy, but to day, darn if there was 3 of them up about 40 foot in the trees roosting.

10 yr’s ago I started out with 5 Peacocks and left. There is about 30 of them around and darn if I didn’t see three of them back again. Must be mating season again.
