Future LGB product pricing

Here we go again , blaming LGB for the greedy importers' mark-ups . I do not pay anything like that for LGB in the UK .
Mike, Have you seen the catalog prices from Marklin, almost $300 for a dinky Porter thats no different save a circuit board than my Toytrain level Porter? Thats direct from Marklin's catalog, before any importer or distributor has added their markup. Marklin doesnt give a rats tooth whether its affordable to anyone or not, it is what it is and thats what it is, pay up or go home, Marklin has ALWAYS been so as long as I can remember, its one huge reason they have almost no presence in the US, they are just too dam expensive amd now LGB is going that way here as well.

Couple that with here in the US LGB is sold thru only one distributor, HK Walthers, and they NEVER sell anything for less than full MSRP. its just what they do, all across the board in all scales. The days of cheaper buying direct from LGBoA are long gone. LGB has become what I predicted it would be if Marklin got ahold of it. Expensive beautique brand models out of the reach of most moderate income large scalers. And thats sad becuase LGB isnt the only game in town, most US modelers would much rather buy Bachmann or HLW for narow gauge now, and Aristo and USA have the standard gauge camp under their wing, now Piko is offering much more affordable items comparativley, is is any wonder if LGB/Marklin wont be right back in bankruptcy court again in a few years if they dont pull their collective heads out wake up and smell the coffee.

If that’s the same Porter as I saw in my dealership , they must print two catalogues .
I nearly got one (for about 220 dollars) but bought another loco instead .
I am in email contact with train nuts in the USA , and they are almost at the stage
of getting me to buy and post on .
I understand the frustrations of people wanting to get LGB in the USA , I have seen
the advertised prices and they are disgraceful .
Having said that , it is also cheaper to buy Bachmann here than USA .
There is a lot of competition here though , perhaps that forces a bit of a rethink when
doing the mark-up .

I have heard this weekend that another manufacturer will be announcing a 20% price increase shortly, at this rate they will price all the newbies out of the hobby. I still can’t beleive the price of track!

Nico thats precisely why my new layout, or any other possible layout in my future will be R1 only, any needed track will be second hand. Anything else is simply cost prohibitive.

If anyone IS buying NOS or new LGB at full MSRP now its got to be a pretty small audience, at least compared to a few years ago.

Vic,

I don’t even look at the MSRP! I look at the price from the different dealers on the Internet.

… is the dealer reliable? will I get shafted on the shipping? are there hoops to jump through on the method of payment? do I really “need” it. And then I buy or I don’t! Oh yes, two weeks back I received a 40920 Flatcar, acceptable price out of the USA.

PS BTW I use more or less the same method when I buy photo or video equipment. I remember when Yellow Pages had the “let the fingers do the walking” slogan, more true than ever except we “walk” on the Internet.
