About a month or so ago, I lost the ability to upload pics here. I even tried copying the location of them else where on line and that didn’t post at all.
John
Bob, did you block me?
John
What do you mean when you say "Lost the ability to upload pics’ ?
I got a pop up telling me to delete some pics to upload new. I tried, but apparently not enough. Not fond of wiped threads I quit. I tried using the location url(s) from that other place and the whole post didn’t go through…
I wish I could donate to this fine site, but my health issues have sent me along a more frugal path.
Best wishes to all,
John

Well the silence spoke volumes and so I’ve deleted All Historical photos. Keeping only G stuff.
John
John,
What’s the man gonna say? You are out of free space to my understanding!
Am I Correct?

yes and no
I followed the instructions and deleted all that wasn’t in a thread, still couldn’t add new items… so my innocent question; was I blocked.
I haven’t tried since the big dump.
Are we correct?
John, did you reduce the file size of what you wanted to upload?

I always resize them to 800 pixels wide for the dial up / mobile folks…
I wasn’t sure if an Update hadn’t broken my path.
Still not sure about that…
Whatever.
Trying to be helpful, and I know you are upset John…
There are TWO “sizes” to a picture, the actual DISPLAY size, usually expressed in pixels, and the STORAGE size, expressed in bytes.
The freight shed only cares about the STORAGE size, but your response only addressed the DISPLAY size, which does not matter.
Normally, when you reduce the DISPLAY size, the STORAGE size also shrinks, but often not as much as you would think. The STORAGE size is affected by the DISPLAY size, and the COMPLEXITY of the picture (has to do with the jpg compression algorithm) and the QUALITY setting, which is basically modifying the compression settings, which changes the balance between STORAGE size and QUALITY (details).
It is EASY to get and 800 x 600 picture to be several megabytes in size when reducing it to 200 kilobytes looks virtually as good.
I hope this explanation helps… it’s usually correct.
Greg
Geeez,
I am not upset.
Got the pop up, I obeyed and deleted anything not in a thread, tried uploading 2 pics, denied. Tried using pics locations from mls and the whole post failed to go through at which I asked for basically a yes or no answer. Still not sure if recent updates are in the mix.
I tried using the attachment way when using the reply at the top of the page… nope.
Since then this has gotten more airplay than it deserves.
Feeling a tad guilty for using so much space I deleted all the historical photos I used as teaching tools. I kept my G and contest stuff.
I use the Fast stone pic viewer, because it has easy to use tools, I resize and reduce pixels. Easy to check> roll cursor over pic and read new total… yes, I’ve read the tutorials.
I’m still building my elevated re-incarnation, when my cooling bill drops I’ll send Benevolent Bob a check for another Shed.
Till then,
Happy Rails,
John
