Thanks a bunch Andy for stopping by and keeping up with me on this build. this little scratch built stockyard was fun to make, and thank god for Schliech 1:20 scale toy cattle and horses, not alot of animals in 1:20 scale!

Randy

A few shots of fun;

Wow, I just want to climb in and live there!
Chase the squirrels, throw stones in the creek, sleep in the box car and just bind with nature. I love it.
Thanks for sharing.

David.

Hey thanks David! “rolling into the setting sun”

Well guys, I’ve been plugging along on my challenge build, my “Simpson Creek Mercantile,Hardware & Feed” with a little side wing for a post office, this is a scratch build with some windows & doors from Grandtline, theres a rail stub to the rear for local freight drop transfers.

I build my building structions on a 1/4" piece of hardboard, the foundation to the main building is a 16"x11"x2" blue foam base, scribed with a block pattern and washed in black ink.

now comes the balloon framing.

Looking good there Randy! Built just like they use to, no wonder they burned down so fast.

Hey Gentlmen,
I’ve decided I want to model a different scale for the near future and was wondering if any body wanted to buy my modeled evergreen trees,
if you lived in the Pacific Northwest,
who could pick them up.
there are 40 large trees from 24" -32" tall.
heres a link to see them on the layout;
http://www.railroad-line.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=34727
theres also about 100 wire twist trees,
thanks
Randy

What!!?
You’re not tearing out that beautiful layout, are you?
We’re planning a day trip down there to visit you soon.

ya its already dismantled,
moven on to the next thing

That’s a shame :frowning: I really enjoyed your scenes. Hopefully you’ll still stop in and show some pictures here.

Late to the party, as usual, I came across your thread. What amazing modeling, Randy. I’m adding you to my list of large-scale master modelers. I think that for sheer realism you can’t beat indoor model railroading, where you can control pretty much everything. I know large scale is largely, outdoor/garden based, but things like trees, plants, etc don’t scale down well, if ya care about such things. Unfortunately, few of us have the room to build a proper indoor large-scale model railroad, so we move outdoors, which can be confining too, if ya live in certain places like LA.

I was hoping that your pike might be on whatever tours they’ve arranged for the Narrow Gauge Convention, which is based in Bellevue (Seattle area) this year. There’s a bunch of top-notch S-scale layouts on the tour (Paul Scoles, to name a biggie), and I thought maybe you might be included, although I have not a clue as to where Yakima is relative to Seattle.

Since you seem to be constantly be tearing down and building anew, you are among that rare breed to whom the trip is more exciting than the destination. Not that there’s anything wrong with that, since we get to see more of your fine work. Keep us apprised.

dear Friends,
here today to let you know I’ve been making G scale structures akin to what I made on my layouts,
for sale on ebay,
smaller buildings- cabins, docks, & sheds,
thanks for your intrest,
Randy

Randy, seen 'em before. Great work, though. Very labor (and detail) intensive.

BTW, are you the one selling the custom-built structures on eBay? I looked at the cabin. Well worth the $50 or so, if ya consider the time it takes to build one.

Hey Joe,
those were probably mine you saw,
I’m moving to a smaller scale to model in my railroad room,
but am still making 1/2" scale buildings like I had on the Columbia Pacific Railroad,
Rustic Cabins,Docks & Sheds etc. to sell to others,
I do enjoy modeling 1/2" scale wooden models.
