Fn3 "Columbia Pacific Railroad"

OK Randy now you have to let us all know about, “FROCKS”. How and what are they made from? BTW I can’t wait to see more of this winters projects.

Chuck

Well, it could be Foam Rocks, or, since Randy is modeling Fn3, it could be Fn Rocks…:stuck_out_tongue: Nah, that’s too simple. Tell us Randy, Inquiring minds want to learn.

“Frocks” are pieces of foam like out of your couch cushions,
you rip them to size according to your needs,
I use a dilutted joint compound mix,(light if you can find it,Home depot)
mixed to about pancake mix consistancy,
paint the foam pieces once you’ve glued them in place,
useually takes two coats,
then when it dries you use acryilic washes to color them,
and they basically weigh nothing,
but I’d say these are strictly for indoor modeling,

“Frocks” Foam Rocks,
google Frocks and maybe the originaters of this idea will pop up,

Randy
Welcome to our great site. There is something about handlaid track that makes a RR look so good.
Your attention to detail is excellent and your RR is just awesome. What rail are you using?? I looks
like ME nickel silver 250.
Rodney

Great pictures. I had seen them and followed them on Railroad Line Forums. I am glad you got on here and figured out the picture posting process.

I think you will like this site. A very good group of folks. I have learned a lot from the members so far. Very cordial group too.

Doc Tom

Hey Rodney,
I love hand laying track as well,
in this large scale I can cut my own ties,
all my trestles and buildings are made from wood I cut on a table saw,
I use red cedar for the wood,
I cheat on window and door trim using twizzle sticks etc.
& Grantline windows and doors.

the track is code 250 Nickel/silver,
Switches are from"Switchcrafters"

Randy

Thanks a bunch Tom,
I’m glad to be at this forum,
cause its strickly large scale,

Jons idea about using “Foxfire” gave me a way to post pictures,
without having to go to college.

I also love to hand lay track. I have made some special trackwork for members on this site. On my layout I use brass AMS code 250 track and build all of my own switches. This winter I need to build 4 or 5 duel gauge (20.3 standard and narrow gauge) switches. I plan on doing a loop in standard gauge for some standard gauge locomotives that I want to build.

Hey Rodney,
thats great you have the skill to make your own switches,
me I’m electically challanged!!!
I’ve relied on others for the switches.
