If you look close in the first pic Ken you can see the DON’T WALK lit up in the top right corner of that thing (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Oh, a street sign. The building is at the corner of Walk and Don’t Walk.

A couple pictures show it and a couple of pictures don’t.
One shows it on the wall and a couple show it on a pole. Just had me confused…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
Making a bit of progress. Completed the tower roof and cut out some more openings.
I’ve found it easier to cut this time. I switched to a #2 X-Acto blade to cut the straight sides of the openings. I use a cork backed ruler and the cork makes it not slide as much as an all steel ruler. When it is time to cut the curves I get my tiny jigsaw out and run it along an outline at slow speed.

You going to do all that detail under the roof?
Is it still used as a firehouse, since it looks like it’s been cleaned up a whole lot.
I’m going to do SOME detail. I was going to do a lot, but considering that the normal view will be looking down…
There won’t be as much visible. So certainly not the fine detail directly under the tower roof, but the rest of the roof, probably…
Nice progress… (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Have you tried one of these?

Nope. I don’t have one so I don’t know how it would do on the 6mm foamed PVC.
Anybody tried it?
Bruce
You might get to use the Fraze " It’s like cutting thru butter with a hot knife" (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)
I would not recommend heating pvc as it’s compund is not the same as styrene. The pvc emits some very nasty poisonous gases that will make your eyes water and gasp for air if you catch them right while heating it up to make a plow for and EMD F40.
Hmmm … that explains a lot Mr. Russell (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Your eyes gasp for air??? That certainly explains a lot, Roos.
Call the MIB Squad. One got loose.
Rainy days…are good for modeling, but not much else. I really want to be outside this time of year.
But, I’ve been putting off cutting the openings for a long time; finally finished them today.
Looks good, Bruce… Am about ready to start cutting out for the windows in the meat packing plant for the Industrial Park…
Hiya Bruce…glad to see you’ve picked up on this project again. I’m following your progress with great interest…it’s a wonderful building to model.
I decided that I better do the tower first.
I started applying Precision Products brick siding using Welder contact cement. Some styrene strips for the “concrete” areas.
Time to order some more Welder, a one ounce tube doesn’t last that long.
I thought about making some molds for the brick arches over the windows, but it looks like my mold making stuff has dried up, so time to order some more of that as well.
Oh well, there’s still a lot to do in the meantime.
Thats a fine looking start Bruce.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
Nice work. I remember as a kid watching my father and others hang 2 1/2 hose in a tower after every fire. Those were the days of split hose beds full of 2 1/2. Thankfully those days are over. Modern hose doesn’t need to dry in the tower. Pigeons are the only thing hanging out there now. Can’t wait to see the finished product.
Thanks, guys.
It’s tedious. The Welder needs to set up for about 8 minutes, so I cut a piece, put some glue on it and let it set up…then glue it in place after 8 minutes or so…and meanwhile listen to my music.
Some more details in place.
Meanwhile, my mold making material came in, so I created a master for the bricks over MOST of the windows.
I’ll cast these…I think I need about 18 of them - which is why I made the master.
Needed a few more parts. So, a couple more masters, the molds and the castings.
The over the window casting seems to fit.
I think my modeling skills are going…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-foot-in-mouth.gif)
I know a good craftsman is supposed to measure twice, cut once.
Lately my modeling goes more like this:
- Measure twice.
- Cut once.
- Oops, that’s not right.
- Try again. Measure 3 times this time; it must be right now.
- Cut once.
- Hmm…still not right. Maybe I can just cut a bit to make it fit?
- Nope.
- Oh well, maybe I can cover it with some trim pieces.
- Eh…
- Well, there IS the 10 foot rule!

Now I don’t feel so bad…
