This was the last good day of weather until after Easter, I felt it was a good time to run a short cheese/beer/meat reefer local and some coal to power the homes when the storms hit. Sound was not on for the GP as I didn’t want my better half to complain about the noise after a rough night’s sleep.

My layout is in a 14’ x 14’ L shaped flower bed. All curves are 4’ diameter (R1), but that’s so I can clear the fire escape stair supports. I’m glad you’re inspired, and you’re the second person this month to ask me about it! Let me know if you have other questions! I will echo everyone else’s recommendation that you should go with the largest curves you can. But if you must go with 4’ diameter (R1), you’ll be limited to smaller equipment and modifying couplers to get what you want to run.

This was filmed over the weekend. My dad is a Dr. Pepper addict. It gave him a-fib from all the caffeine. So when the HO/N hobby shop that’s supported my school’s club has some G scale stuff get dropped in consignment, I’ll make an offer to help him clear it. $40 later, I got 3 NOS Delton Dr. Pepper box cars.

You need Delton couplers? Used to be my standard before I changed to Accucraft. I have some I can send you, PM your mailing address.
I’ll keep the coupler trade in mind. I’ve been working on converting from the motley mess I’ve got to more Aristo/USA and leaving a couple hook/loop conversion cars for use with my Rock Island GP9.

With weather as nice as today is, you can’t help but be outside running the trains. I’m hoping to stay out late enough to get some of the lighted buildings on for a video.
Thanks for the welcome and the great advice! I am learning this is an expensive hobby, especially as I am locked up at home and keep wanting to order stuff! I am hoping to connect again with the OVGRS when we are allowed to be social again. As for curves, I have a small yard that I must share with my wife, 3 kids, and a dog, so I am limited to 6’ diameter for now…hopefully can get a nice little layout starated this year.

And now for the footage I waited all day to get. Finally got to see what the layout looks like with some lighting! Now I’ve got some more ideas to work with for the station, the houses in the corners, the freight house…

Well, we weren’t washed out after all the rain the past few days. The squirrels chewed up the wooden railroad crossing sign posts I had acquired down in Union, so I’ll be replacing the posts with styrene and re-installing them later. Here’s a video from yesterday, a dinner excursion train stopped by the depot, but there were no action clips of it (for obvious reasons).
I’m a part of some G Scale facebook groups and put today’s motive power selection up to them. The Lionel Large Scale GP won out.
