Facebook?

I find Facebook started as a Social Website to find old school buddies and has blossomed into somehting else entirely. I had a Live Journal account but I don’t even remember the password anymore and never used it. MySpace was too “flashy” and too full of teenagers to bother with. I’ve still got an account there but rarely go there. I also have a profile on Tribes.net which is interesting ina whole other dimension and I got there from time to time.
I’m finding that some of my friends on Facebook are prolific posters and I really do not care what their friends of friends say about what they post. To that end I read but am careful (not careful enough somedays) about what I respond to publically. I’ve joined some “groups” there but find they are somewhat dead and many are set up and never used. Or at elast not like I sued to seeing here and at other forums. Even Yahoo groups works better than some of the groups on Facebook. I’ve got some friends I only see once a year (maybe) thru Tribes and Facebook and many old school mates and some relatives that only use Facebook to keep in touch. It’s not bad but serves a different purpose entirely.

NO Facebook for me or my bride, we just don’t care what our “school friends” are doing.

in addition, we kinda like our privacy, and try to maintain it as much as possible. esp with adopted kids. Twitter-NO, it’s nobody’s business if I’m taking a dump or going to the ACE hardware store…

this (LSC) is about the extent of sharing myself on the web…below is an interesting video, that prompted me to request my father remove any reference to my fam and my kids pictures from his FB, he really didn’t understand why he could post pictures of his Grandkids on FB, but he finally agreed. I may post one or two here, but they are my kids and I usually try to place them in the background or shoot from behind them…(I didn’t do this at first, and regret that choice)…

You and I both.
Interesting video. Really does not surprise me.

Back when the political discussion was allowed and going strong…there were times we had 70-80 guests here at LSC.
I would get on at 5:00am and it would be showing 50 guests on the forums.
Software glitch, or govt. web crawlers. Who knows.

Cale’s video reference brings up a very good point. Facebook has perpetual unlimited rights to EVERYTHING you post on their system. This has me re-thinking the creation of a fan page for my RR. I’d rather they not be able to use my photos, videos and other content for whatever they like without asking permission.

The guy who commented on the video about always using a proxy, changing ISP’s monthly and never posting your real name… This dude is paranoid

EDIT / CORRECTION:

I took the time to read the Face book User Agreement and the DO NOT have perpetual rights. They have unlimited rights to use anything you post, but those rights expire when you delete your content.

I couldn't find him either.

Getting flooded with friend requests since this thread started. I hope no one is offended if I ignore them. I really don’t want to see hundreds of posts a day from people I only know casually through this forum.

I have gotten none. :frowning:

I use Facebook to keep up with the kids. My son is stationed in Rota, Spain, with the US Navy, and I'm able to keep track of him through his wife. He is a computer geek for the Nav, so you would think he knows how to use email, but Nooooooo! http://www.freerails.com/images/emoticons/gerg.gifhttp://www.freerails.com/images/emoticons/Crazy.gif:lol:
Yeah Dad, I have totally forgotten how email works :P Truthfully I am really begining to hate computers (thanks to my rating) and would rather use my time ignoring the blasted things. Unless Autumn changed something on my account the last time I logged on to Facebook was a year ago.

Hey, Griz, it’s good to hear from you. As I write this, it is 1124 here, and 2024 where you are. Give me a call, or give me your phone number. At least this time, I don’t need to talk to your Master Chief.

Me too. I've got a lot of 'long-lost friends' that were long lost for good reason. I sure as hell wouldn't waste electrons looking for THEM. Especially with them knowing what I look like now, as well.

Anyone comes looking for me is going to get a BIG surprise, yesSIR. tac www.ovgrs.org

I wouldn’t even know how to bother putting my picture or any picture, on this forum, the chat, let alone some book for faces…

…I don’t even own a camera, or a silly telephone. I only have a regular telephone, and a simple computer, that I communicate with…and I seem to be surviving quite well, thank you.
