Yeah well, some of us - I for one - learned a lot more than just three chords, but I once had a red guitar; with glitter for better performance, no less! :D :D

Killed a guitar player onceā€¦must of not been you.

LR, that type of insinuation is totally unacceptable in my opinion. I hope Bob agrees and takes appropriate actionā€¦!

Not anymore than Dave Healy getting jumped on in the "Discussion Forum" for his Asia manufacturing comment.

Warren dontcha just love those ex spooks?

Making valid comments about the foibles of Asian production in reply to another equally valid comment along the same vein, palls into insignificance to saying ā€œKilled a guitar player onceā€¦must of not been youā€ which has unmistakeable overtones of violence implied.

Still, I guess we should take that sort of comment from Marvin, as Marvin just being Marvin, and simply ignore it.

Yep, thatā€™s what I do with that kind of comment.

Just told you a truth from long agoā€¦Iā€™ll just use the Ripleyā€™s axiom, ā€œBelieve it or notā€.

Well, I was in High school before I realised it was pronounce Kaybek, not Kweebek. Of course, I was also 14 before I realized that damnyankee was actually two words. :D

Most folks donā€™t realize that local customs are just that; local customs, not laws of nature.

Please pass that on to Preston Manning - former Alberta politician and one-time leader of the Federal Oppositon. When he pronounced Quebec, he used a lot more Eā€™s than you do.

I have a few pronunciation pet peeves. Note the irony of the 2000 US Presidential election: one guy goes on to lecture the world on the melting of the polar ice caps but canā€™t pronounce ā€œarcticā€ and the other guy has his finger on the red button but canā€™t pronounce ā€œnuclearā€.

Time to get back to work.

JB,

You have a point and so does Michael.

Iā€™ve given up on otherā€™s grammar and spelling a while ago, especially on the Internet! OTOH when some of the ā€œreal expertsā€ show up and try to explain the finer points of language ā€¦ wellllllll ā€¦ then itā€™s time to correct a few ā€œmisperceptionsā€.

A rudimentary service provided ā€œFree of Chargeā€, but seldom appreciated.

Is it wrong to hope to help others to try to learn good grammer ?

I see, so often the improper use of ā€œThere, their, and theyā€™erā€, and often want to try to help those that use them improperly; but it seems that no-one gives a dam.

The really funny thing is that the ones that ā€œButcherā€ the language most are the ones that one would think would be most interested in using good grammer due to the employment they seem to have, or had.

To learn to use the english language in an educated manner would seem to be in everyonesā€™ best interest; but a few seem to be obsessed with the idea that it doesnā€™t matter.

To make the odd spelling mistake is acceptable; but to always make the same mistakes is not a move to be proud of.

The failure to use caps on the internet; especially when addressing a person, or stating your name. is a sign of lack of self respect or respect for the person you are addressing.

It takes all kinds, thatā€™s what it takes. Now, speaking strictly for myself; Iā€™d rather have a ā€œfunny accentā€ (Fred, TOC and others can attest to that) and be able to spell reasonably well. If people donā€™t understand me I can still put it in writing for them.
