Top Secret Spy photo.
Sweet, wish I could have been there for that surprise shot.
I’ve heard that orange is the new black, and here Jon is, rockin it.
Other than that, Jon, you’re doing some awesome work, my hat’s off to ya. Thanks for posting on your efforts.
Your spy was outed! For 20.
This weekend was the Friends of the East Broad Top Annual Reunion. This morning I drug out my now ancient DSLR. The railroad ran a Southbound Freight. I chose to shoot it at Jordan Summit, the high point approaching the high school. At this location, there is no clean shot from the sunny side, so the lighting on this shot isn’t the best. I still like it for the headlight reflection in the puddle…
And this one is for Rooster…
You captured my spies!
So the question of the day …Who is the guy in the upper right of the pic that’s “playin with himself” during the group photo of the annual reunion?
No idea. I can’t even find myself. This year the foundations staff photographer didn’t show up, so Brad used his phone. The low-res copy posted on Facebook is super blurry
i would not be so sure, that the guy poses “playfull”.
to me he looks more like somebody trying to release his zipper from a very painfull catch…

Checking out the angles from the back yard through the recently cleared woodsy area…
I prefer the angles from the side yard without so many trees, but it’s great to be able to see the trains from our deck…
Livin’ the dream, Jon! Does the crew wave at you guys?
I don’t know beans about the EBT geography, but does (or might) the train go near intact any mining site(s), and if so is there talk of incorporating something like that as a tour feature?
Jon is the only guy I know that has a 1/1 scale railroad in his backyard.

Naahh, you know another…even if it is horrible video. Original CVRR mainline still exists in my backyard and though it is not narrow gauge it is older than EBT.
Sorry Jon for not sticking with the thread topic here.
Yes, they do! And yesterday, one of the new conductors, a guy I work with on the combine, hollered Hi Jon!
The East Broad Top was primarily a coal hauler. The line extends around 33 miles from a connection with the PRR Pittsburg sub at Mount Union to the coal fields on the east side of Broad Top Mountain. The tracks climb a long grueling 2% grade from Saltillo to Robertsdale, about 1/3 of the line.
The Friends maintain a museum and station at Robertsdale where the coal fields begin. Walking tours are given to some of the mine ruins and about a mile or so of track between Roberstdale and Wood has been cleared for rail bikes, a hand car and occasionally a powered speeder is run. We try and encourage riders of the short section of line between Shirleysburg and Pogue (Rockhill is the station in between those ends of operable track) to make the half hour trip over two ridges to Robertsdale.
One of the mine entrances…
Besides the steam train ride, there is a complete in-tact belt driven locomotive repair and car building facility in Rockhill Furnace that may be toured, That is the crown jewel and attracts a good number of the riders.
In Saltillo, about three blocks from where we are finishing the recreated station is an intact water powered and belt driven mill. The railroad has tried to buy it. The owner recently decided to donate it to the historical society. The historical society has no interest in restoring it, but wants to lease it to the railroad. I went to look last weekend, but the photos are still in my camera.

The war event was nice. Well attended with lots of great displays, To see the best you had to take the train and get off at Colgate Grove.
Back to the regular trains this cool and rainy morning. I have missed several great shots on cool foggy mornings when the first train leaves with the cylinder cocks open. Today I caught it. Not as foggy as yesterday, but still a good series. At least the folks on Facebook think so.
16 Leads the 10:30 train…
These shots look like a movie set, Jon. Very cool!
