Here’s another I saw today that amused me:
I mean, they’re selling a $50 cement car that they’ve added a motor and LED to for ~$300.
In fairness to the seller, who may or may not be the modeler, the price he’s asking, $219.00 isn’t that bad considering the work that went into animating one of these cars. I attempted the very same thing a few years ago and got frustrated. I couldn’t seem to find the right motor for the job at that time. I have since did some redesigning and plan to attempt it again soon.
Looks like I’m selling my track to cheap!!

Don, this is a RARE Marklin piece of track, don’t you know. It commands a premium.
Rare?
Oh yea. Ok. LGB is much more common.
did you guys miss that it is most likely the nickel-plated track, that is no longer made, and it was very expensive?
In this case it is indeed rare, although you could grind the plating right off with a stalled LGB track cleaning loco.
Greg
My favorite came up 3 years ago: $6,300 for a “rare” LGB set. Yes, it had the nice “suitcase” box, but it wasn’t gold plated or anything. No pics now, but his description is still funny.

Some of us on the other forum tried to enlighten the dude, but he was quite unwilling to change his mind. He eventually came down to $3k, but still no buyer… bummer!
Now, Amazon also has had some funny stuff,
I’ve actually bought something on that list: an inflatable kitty unicorn horn. For my 60-year-old sister, who loves her cat. And unicorns. Still.
My fave is still the reviews on Tuscan Whole Milk, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00032G1S0
Back to trains, is this a lame RR sign, or what? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017V6ZXK2
Questionable, but has good reviews: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1530851882
I love these, serious Christmas wishlist material:

Sorry for posting that, did not know it was Rare!
Don
Yeah, the seller should have been a little more specific.
The nickel plated brass is actually really good, great conduction, no oxidation, but LGB produced a few batches where the plating was defective, and it was very expensive, and then to top it off, people using abrasives did sometimes sand the plating off, as well as the stalled LGB track cleaning loco.
So, all in all, LGB decided to withdraw the product, but I believe Train Line 45 still carries the product in Europe.
Some old stock at clearance prices:
One of the few times rare was almost justified, but an operational Yugo is rare, and for good reason ha ha!
Greg
Can’t believe it! He put it back on and raised the price.
Well if at first you don’t succeed…
It cant possibly be because you done something wrong. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)
Yeah, now he mentions the missing handrails, but not the missing “loops” around the springs, look at this:
is missing on his loco:
Whatever that square “loop” is around the springs, it comes off all the time… missing on his loco.
Well, now it is C5, not “excellent”… poor guy, wants his money out of it, but did not care for it…

But so many people think old trains equals big dollars, because their uncle’s, best friend’s, ex-roommate’s brother, sold his Lionel set for 3 grand. But of course no one remembers exactly what set it was. And maybe it wasn’t quite 3 grand, but it was almost 3 grand…
It is increasingly difficult to stifle my annoyance at our model train club open houses when people use imperfect recall of a decades old news article about that as proof model trains are too expensive a hobby to do. While at the same time they are paying a couple hundred a month for television and cigarettes: no, it isn’t about what is too expensive, it is about the choice of what has useful value to you and what does not.
Greg, yes them darn swing hangers do fall off all the time.
Forrest, its all about choices. People see a nice train set up, and many of them immediately comment that they don’t have the time. Yet, they know all the characters and plot-line of several TV shows.
