Vic, Well…

Vic, what have I told you ‘bout thinkin’?
Way back when I had to decide on which standard to use for my scratchbuilt LS turnouts — that is ca. 2001 — I compared the NMRA to the NEM Standards. I was already used to the “interesting” NMRA Standards from the smaller scales (N, HOn3 and HO) and not really impressed (underwhelmed would be the better word).
In my opinon (with some background in QC) whenever they overhaul those standards they still don’t see fit to go full bore with the ISO scheme that is in use around the globe.
On another note; the best standards do no good unless the manufacturers actually follow those standards.
Hans asks a good question: Will the manufacturers follow the NMRA standards in manufacturing?
What is the history of mfg. allegiance to NMRA by Bachmann? USA? Hartland? LGB, and now a significant player, PIKO?
Does it take endorsement from a major vendor e.g. TRAINWORLD to influence what standards are retained and what is changed? The axiom: Go with what sells is front-line reasoning.
Wendell
Wendell,
Since both Märklin and PIKO already follow the NEM-MOROP standards in the smaller scales, why would/should they consider the NMRA Standards in G (Gummi) and/or 2m?
So…start a thread on the subject of STANDARDS…why we need them, and what happens when there are no standards.
It would be refreshing to have a thread that is named for its content…this one is so far from its intent, that it should be closed down and locked.

G1MRA…Thats what I was trying to say
No, only an “enlightened few” have figured out G1MRA is pretty the best hook to hang your coat on over here in the US
