Woohoo!! My new camera arrived today! Still reading the manual and getting everything figured out. Tomorrow I’ll try shooting some pics on the layout.
What did you get Ray?
I got the Canon SD880 IS.
The only feature I wanted which this lacks is a swivel screen, which would make taking low-angle shots a lot easier. But none of the cameras I looked at had that.
I think I should see about getting a protective case for it. It looks to be a lot more delicate than my old 35mm pocket camera, especially the big LCD screen.
I wouldn’t worry too much about it Ray. I carry my SD700 IS around in my pocket all the time - along with car keys, change, and pocket knife. It seems to have held up well over the years. (2+ years so far.) The paint has rubbed off a bit, but I don’t see any scratches in the screen.

I find that just having it in my pocket it is very easy to take out and get shots. It’s the camera I take almost everywhere, and it’s the one I use for all the train events.
I put mine in a separate pocket from the keys.

My Panasonic TZ5 is small enough to fit in my shirt pocket, the LCD screen got fitted with a foldable visor that does double duty, no glare in the brightest sun and nice protection for the screen when closed. Oh yeah, the TZ5 leaves the house whenever I do.
