DD-40X 3-D print

I don’t know, reading this makes me wonder about 3-D printing for me.

http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2013/08/home-3d-printers-take-us-on-a-maddening-journey-into-another-dimension/3/

Yeah i’m running 2 Rep 2x Dual extrusion models and yes i do send prints overnight and while i’m gone away from home all the time…

I’m currently trying to dial in my 3rd printer which has an even bigger build platform then the Rep2

Sounds good Mark, should make getting to the Shark B closer. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-smile.gif)I see 3-D is too much for an old guy to learn.

It isn’t because your old Jerry, I think I want to learn how to do it then when I begin to start plaing in Sketch Up I end up in the fetal position on the floor mumbling. I am very intimidated by the programming.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

And that is supposed to inspire me to try it Devon? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)I’ll stay in my chair and off the floor and wait for Mark. I hope you succeed Devon.

If the guy doing this project uploads this to thingiverse then I plan on scaling it up to 1/29th and making one

Pete,

I think it is just me. I have had others say its easy. I just do not have a knack for it. That type of stuff I need hands on teaching. I need for someone yo work through it with me and actually create something then I will get it. I might see about taking a class once I done with teal school.

Devon, can you translate this into English, or, even better, North American? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-innocent.gif)

Thanks.

Yo, its like dis y’all. I aint got no skills for dis shiznit. I be tryin like sum damn fool to figure out hows to make da puter make me a train. I needs some sum beotch to give meez a lesson befo I be jackin it up.

Hope that’s better

Or maybe said this way.

Pete,

It is probably just me that has trouble using sketch up to generate files that can be used to build things with a 3D printer. I do not possess the mental capacity to do such things with out first having had someone walk through it with me. I need hands on teaching for this type of thing make sense to me. After I finish my current academic pursuits, I might have to look into a class at the local community college that teaches this sort of thing.

Devon, there are “Classes” in sketch up on youtube. And days free

Yeah been there, tried that. I am not kidding, I think it might be a learning disability or something but there are somethings that unless I work with someone closely I just struggle. Sketch Up is just one of those things, I have tried, but can’t seem to master even the simplest things.

Shades of high school drafting class…

Terrible Tom Tyler you’ve gotta be kidding! I really have to draw a V-8 crankshaft in the perspective view? Yup 3D in 1968…

Got an A

Wasn’t as hard as I tried to convince myself.

I remember doing weird things like that in my drafting class also.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)

Hi Mark, I’m currently still a bit strugling with the boogies of the DDA40X. (I need some more powerfull motors for this machine, I want to be able to pull about 40 coaches, lol)
I will surely post this loco on thingiverse, once it’s able to drive, but don’t expect this before february or so. (Next week we leave for the holidays, and I’m still awaiting some deliveries from China, furthermore I’m currently occupied with my next loco, a German V200 in 3 1/2" scale (127mm rails), I’m printing 2 at the same time, one as a birthday present (needs to be ready before march, and this is one hell of a project, and ofcourse one for myself)

You will certainly hear from me in the future, I bought a bunch of plans for german coaches and diesel locos

best regards & best wishes for 2016,
Kris

Mark, well I hope you keep one example of everything for yourself. Eventually you will have a very impressive display of raw power.

His is 1/32, I’ll print mine at 1/29th, so yes I will do 1 for myself

Mark of course. The someday you can post a picture of your display case, full of 1:29 diesels, and make us all drool…

Here’s a current roster line up of all my current 3d printed engines, this does not include the GP-30 test engine that’s outside or engines that i have modified with 3d print parts (for example i have a 40-2 that has an admiral cab and nose)

From left to right

D&H 5004 - RS-11 with a chopped nose

D&H 5002 - RS-11 High Hood

D&H 5011 - RS-11 Low hood

C&LP 1957 - SW 1500

D&H 5019 - RS-36

SW 1977 - Bombardier Traxx F140

K&AC - RS mutt (used up some failed prints)

D&H - C420

D&H 410 - C420 - has a unique nose due to an accident

D&H 402 - C420 High Hood

Via 1971 - F40ph

Some of the other unique bashes include an RS3m, U23B, And a RF-16 Shark but those have no 3d printed parts

That’s a heck of a power line up there.
