Large Scale Central

Credibility and Kool Aid

The “Kool-Aid” monicker comes from the fawning of the folk on the forum.

Ever see the photos of his new switch machine, with “Patented” on it next to an existing Train-Li switch machine?

The back-to-back on the “new” power blocks is something else that causes consternation.

They keep denying there is a problem.
And, the “fix” for the steamers was lock-titing the wheels to the axles.

Do you know how you get into the gearboxes for maintenance?

How far you want to go with this?

Mark.
I sure do have a “horse in this race”.
I have known and had dealings with the Polk family for a long time. Ever since Nat Polk asked me at the Chicago Hobby Show in 1988 to be the Australian distributor for their large scale trains product line.
Given the trading terms they were offering, an open ended LC with no choice of product, I respectfully declined.

I mostly stay out of the discussion on any products they make that actually competes with what I make.

The reference to Kool-Aid is NOT for people that appreciate Aristocraft, I appreciate Aristocraft and have many of their products and a lot of money in their track and switches and locos.

The reference is for those FEW who believe ANYTHING they are told, even when facts prove these things to be untrue.

“miles of wire in a DCC layout”
“beyond anything ever concieved by DCC”
“1000 NMRA CV’s”
“we have never had a problem with our gearset”
“no one had problems with slipping drivers”
“we do not reverse engineer anybody”

Those statements are all untrue. If “you” believe them after all the facts presented, and keep refusing to believe them untrue when presented with facts over and over, then I proclaim “you” a drinker of Kool Aid.

I hope my definition is now made clear…

Regards, Greg

Kool-Aid gives me heartburn.
When you make a direct copy, no need to reverse engineer.

Gee, I guess LGB really is dead.

It’s Aristo’s turn over the fire.
Hmmmm…So what clever moniker (insult name) will they come up with for people who like Aristo products…

Hopefully nothing, liking is fine, Kool Aid is defined above. No intent to pick on people who like Aristo products, I like and own Aristo products.

Regards, Greg

For some reason deja vu. comes to mind , only some of the names have changed , other than that …

I cannot wait until Marklin/LGB get back into full production and let their ‘new’ distributor get it to the American market. Then we can have a real discussion with the same names involved. It will be a new cause for some, who switch allegiance, depending on which side our Canadian friend places his bets.

I have no problem with Aristro-Craft. Their products are not perfect (but generally fixable), but every manufacturer is ‘entitled’ to spruik their product line in a tough economic market.

Funny how one never hears about Charlie Ro & Co. and yet his product is always out there in the market. I am not a great fan of the product line, but it is certainly a quiet achiever.

Tim,
There is nothing wrong with spruiking your product.
Provided you tell the truth in the statements you make, when you are spruiking.
AristoCraft does tend to “Gild the Lily” as Greg has pointed out.

Nothing simpler than that, they will be the Aristocats. Lots of caterwauling, meowing and other catty utterances. But … perhaps not until next week.

If you would like me to, I could come up with a catchy rhyme. :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue:

Next Veek!

I want it now. …and I want it as cheap a possible. No matter if the price reflects the quality.
