Contemplating Live Steam

Ah, Argyle/Argyll. Thanks for the update - you know how it is, sometimes news takes most of a year to get back to England, depending on the winds, y’know.

Best wishes for 2017

Hi Terry.

The change happened at least 6 years ago. Carrier pigeons would be a bit faster than the news service you use. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

I moved up here to Casino nearly six years ago. Michael bought my old RCS fold up display stand well before I left Melbourne and modified it for his requirements.

Tac I have a RH Argyll loco, not the OP. This is why we do not tell our wives what these cost before hand, easier to ask forgivness than permission! Many worse things one could spend money on other than trains! I hope you find something. Jay did have a line on a used RH billy that needed a bit of TLC in the paint dept for around $1000. It was a friend of his. Just cannot go wrong with RH engine. You can also get the RH kits for Billy or Katie for under 1100 with shipping. You get the enjoyment of building the engine and learning how it works, and the instructions are excellent. Mike

The excellent offer that Jay offered me just isn’t going to work out, partly because I made the mistake of telling my wife how much the engine cost, and she blew a gasket, and since I have to live with her, I don’t need the grief. So the budget stays below $1000.

I did ask Jay to keep me in mind if something comes up used.

Having a budget of $1000 makes the choices easier. I would look at the Plantation engine, since it looks like it is available. The Lumberjack will bring you just over your limit especially if you get a pre-assembled one. Also see if you can find a Regner Konrad, its a shame they stopped making that one but maybe you can get lucky.

With the Brexit scene in the UK, I can buy a Lumberjack kit for $783 plus $100 for shipping. Contact Graham at http://www.gardenrailways.co.uk/ and he will take off the 20% VAT (divide the UK price by 1.2.) The factory-built unit is $890 plus shipping.

I contacted Accucraft, and pre-ordered a Forney, due out 2nd quarter 2017 by the email I received today.

Thanks Pete, for the tip, but it says right on the website, can’t make a purchase from the website if not in the UK

Congrats for deciding Mike,

Are you getting a black or green one?

Is the Chevy a '53 or '54? I’ve had a '52 convert a long time, still not on the road.

When I talked to the guy on the phone, I asked for the AC77-050, the green 0-4-4, but when I got the invoice in my email, it showed up as the black AC77-051. Either is fine, I’m just happy to be on a list for a new engine, at a price I can afford.

It’s a '54 4 door, had the original blue flame 6. It was a Bel Air, so it had stuff like the auto-dimming headlight device on the dash. It was a blast to own and drive, but unfortunately I sold it to have $$ to turn the attached garage into a living space.

Mike, that’s because the website can’t handle pre-VAT orders and foreign addresses. Email Graham - [email protected] - he can handle orders manually and will ship to the US. I’ve had 4 packages from him in the past few months.

Ok, I will send him an e-mail, thanks.

I may cave and get the Dora deal, with the 2 coal cars, just so I can get into steaming, and when the Forney becomes available, pick it up at a later date.

Any of you that bought a Dora, what all comes with the Dora (besides the 2 coal wagons in the special)?

Mine had the syringes. One for the water the other for oil. I believe basic Allen wrenches and a extender to fill the gas tank in case the one on the butane can has a short one.

I just ordered one from Jay at the Train dept. Should have it any day now.(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Now we need to have Dora/Cricket steam up event.

Thanks, Shawn

Shawn, On your Regner Konrad, is the throttle RC?

It’s easier to see on most of your engines, but the enclosed cab on the Konrad makes it hard to see, and if so, what servo did you use?

Mike The only one I have that is RC is the Forney. The Konrad is so slow that there was no need to add RC. I like the Hitec micro servos with the metal gears.

Wow, the way your engines move in your videos, with the starting, stopping, reversing into the sheds, I thought they all had RC on them.

Called Reynaulds this morning, the owner won’t be back til next Monday, from Germany. Curious to see what he brings back, or what’s going to be available.

It would be nice if brings back a Konrad or something similar. You never know, they could have some left overs from the discontinued line.

Mike, If you are interested in purchasing a Konrad, Ministeam has one in stock for 850.00. And they did confirm with me that they have one in stock. Good luck. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)
