Ummmm......I want one, OF EACH that is LOL I love those trucks, did you get the gas or diesel version? I wonder if I could write one off as a business expense if I ever get the model making thing going??? And well now that I mention it I could get the camper for lodging while I'm on the road going to shows and buying product to make the probucts I'm going to make.... it is starting to fall into line now. It might just work!! HAAA! Take that tax man!!! Smokebox</blockquote>
Rob,
You’d have to tell the Taxman that you work in Large Scale and the vehicule has to fit the scale.

Love the Zinger Looks to be almost the same size as my TrailLite. Dare say mine weighs a bit less though. [url=lsc.cvsry.com/R-Vision-1024.JPG]

I like to get out…but my loverly bride thinks that motel 6 is roughing it!! I’ve got a 14x16 wall tent that we use when we go to Wyoming, Colorado, or into the badlands of Texas between Pecos and El Paso. It’ll sleep 8 tight, 4 comfortably, and with just 2 or 3 it’s as good as the motel 5 or 6. From Wyoming in '05

My son in law’s dad and brother decided to get one just like mine after being blown out of the nylon bow tents in the first picture in Texas mule deer camp in '05. I wasn’t even there, put my tent up the week end before, and it did not move, but their’s collapsed in a 60-70mph sustained wind ( and it was about 10 F when it happened). From Colorado in '06

We put a lean to infront of the two tents for a cook shack, and eat in the front half of one of them. We bunk 4 in one and 2 in the other. Just me my tent and my 4 wheeler on the hunt… barely got into the Colorado camp with the four wheelers on the trailer, and busted an axel getting to the Wyoming location so don’t think a 5th wheel or big bumper pull is in my future… Mark
Jon…the Crossroads website says 5640 # for the Zinger, you’re right-it’s heavier (32’)!..My Avalanche thought it was A great deal heavier than that!
Since we had never camped in a TT before (and we are broke like the rest of us), we went as base line as possible(metal siding and wood framing)…The next time, we’ll prob go with a Fiberglass Unit (5th Wheel) Double Bunkhouse–we really have no plans on stopping at 4 kids!
the Diesel! Oh, it’s the 7.3 Powerstroke…it is a VERY Long story-if you are interested…here are a few links:

The Guys on the Powerstroke.org forum really helped save me some MUCHO headache!
Mark…now that looks like how we “used” to camp! Some real fun…no matter what, getting outside and taking in that fresh air is one of my favorite things!

The Trail-Lite is 31.5 Ft and about 4850 dry. It’s probably around 6000 loaded. I’m surprised your not that much heavier. My Envoy does great on the flats, but works it’s little cylinders off going up hills. Gas mileage is the pits. I need to wait a few years before upgrading the tow vehicle.
I think the weight I mentioned, the published one…is off by a few hundred pounds (or more)…our trailer is HEAVY…the Avalanche could haul it nicely on the flat, but I’d never attempted to haul it to Tweetsie! the Diesel does a nice job so far! I get about 13-15 around town and 8-10 towing…$100 to fill up just the other day…

I love to camp. The last few years I have been doing more car camping. We started out with a tent but now converted to a pop-up camper. It is a lot easeir with a 3 year old. Before that I did a lot of backpacking, weeks at a time in all sorts of weather. From snowstorms, 4 feet of snow over 100 mile hour winds on Mt Washington to thunderstorms. Thats my faverite kind of camping. Once my daughter gets a little older I want to get back into REAL camping.
The winter time is the best time, clear views, no bugs, no humidity and no people. Here are some shots from my area and no NJ is not all traffic and malls etc… Take a look at Northwest NJ my local area. This is why I love backpacking more - solitude
I have pictures but my direct link puts the image into the page making the pictures way too big. Oh well

So who of you like to go camping!
Shawn those shots are from NY not NJ! Don’t kid yourself! LOL! Cale, I grew up staying at cottages on one side of a recreational lake or another at either set of grandparents. I didn’t really camp until I got married (the first time) and the inlaws had a big ole bumper pull beast. He towed it along a few times and we went along but he quickly got tired of the hassles. His health wasn’t great and it took it’s toll on him. In the meantime my wife & I started to attend a Rennaisance festival in upstate NY state. We found the easiest way to stay near the festival was to stay at Fairhaven Beach State Park a few miles away from the Festival. We bought a tent and used that for our once a year excursions. Fast forward to the next wife and while we didn’t go to the Renn Fest any more we had gotten involved in a more local medieval group and were now camping at events with folks we knew thru that. We started our first event with them not too far from home in a public city park for the weekend in a small tent which had barely enoguh room for our airmattress and the pack n play crib for the baby. She was a year old then. We figured out that weekend that the small tent wasn’t going to work. We had friend camping at events in 10x20 portagarages and we purchased one of them. The big event we go to being Pennsic War near Slippery Rock Pa about 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh. It’s a 2 week camping event at the end of July and beginning of August. The normal attendance is about 12,00 people from all over the world. That Portagarage did so well for us we purchased a second one. Last year the top to the first one developed leaks so we finally upograded this winter to a 12 x 18 canvas traders tent similar to the wall tent shown earlier in this thread. The second portagrage gets used for the camp kithchen anyway so it’s gonna continue until the tarps are no good anymore then we’ll get canvas made to fit the frame. We camp in a “household” of about 40 people. The campsite has no electric where we are but we can run hoses from the water hydrants. So we have an R/V water heater and propane so we have hot showers and hot running water in the kitchen tent.

The potragarage on the far side of the nylon tent is the kitchen that year. The sheet walls had been tied back as we were getting some pretty fierce winds that afternoon.

Show’s my lovely lady and the inside of the gate with the sheet walls up. My “arms” are hanging in this photo on the tower. Rather my banner. Bet you can’t geuss which one?
From last year. We rebuilt and detailed the tower a little and added the banner pole at the top.

This tent is similar to what we bought.

This was our tent(portagarage) in the foreground and the kitchen tent behind it.
Our friend’s tent which looks a lot more medieval than the portagarage. Still not quite enough room, as the nylon tent next to it their son slept in.

Another shot of the gate and the kitchen with our girls hanging from Grandpa Carl (another friend of ours) after this round of thunderstorms had passed. Anyhow while it’s not camping in the sense you guys typically think of it is still roughing it more than the RV folks do! Chas

Nearly 12 years ago Carla and I made our first purchase together (dating)...A tent from Wal-mart...we split the $99. and went more than often!Four years into our marriage Eli was born, and we decided to give the tent to her brother and his fam.we didn’t camp for a year or so, and the bug bit again…in turn we purchased this.
It worked great for a while…I was big into “Dry Camping” so the challenge to conserve battery and water was as fun as the trip (to me). Luke got bigger and we couldn’t figure out what to do once Caidyn was born…so we bought one of these…
Which then lead to the purchase of this-no I ain’t loaded, it’s a 2002 with 200K on the odo:
y’all seeing a pattern here? Now with Carla expecting again…We hope the Zinger can last us a few more season, until maybe a 5th Wheel…or a Class C Motor home.
Ok, so some would say “it ain’t camping” but it works for us! Sometimes I miss the ole tent, but not often!
We should try a LSC Camp-Out in Boone NC for the Tweetsie RailFan Weekend in September?
I missed this thread…
We camp in a trailer now too. It’s a must have these days. There are 5 of us plus our German Shepherd. Heck, I should just say there is 6 of us and be done with it. But we pull a 35 foot trailer that sleeps 9 so there is no chance we’ll need anything larger. It’s actually too big to fit in some places.
I’d guess your trailer will work fine for the new family count too.
Jon.
Chas that looks pretty fun, for me and the boys…Carla-prob not! Neat trick with your shield, it all makes sense now!
Jon I hope so (the trailer being big enuff) I guess we’ll see in a few more months!

The secret to keeping the trailer the right size is to introduce the kids to TENTING. A great novelty when you’re camping with the trailer. Good for the boys till they’re about 15 and for the girls till they’re about, uh, 7…
