Build log for Red Baron Railroad

Can’t believe they laid those pipes right where you wanted to put your Garden Railroad. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-laughing.gif)Another nice update.

Chris

Day 10 - Spent all day fixing the drainage pipe. No real railroad progress.

You really need to lay off the Energy drinks or the light stuff like Mountain Dew.

Nice progress …enjoying the videos !

The trusty Fernco couplings saved the day Nick !! I’d like to hire you by the hour…LOL

Are you referring to the rubber boot couplings I ended up going with? They were the first thing I thought of but really did’t want to go that route. I went to a plumbing place and they had slip couplings for schedule 40. These couplings were to big for the green pipes, but they slipped just nicely over the couplings that fit the green pipes. I thought I could cement them in place, but I was wrong. If they don’t have a snug fit, they won’t cement (or melt) together. If they have a snug fit then you can’t get them in place. I ended up going with the rubber boots (and wasted at least $30) figuring that out.

Day 11 - After having fixed the drainage pipe’s I realized I should add another section for the future train shed. So I removed the rubber boots, cut the pipe’s again and added in an extension.

Every time I watch one of your videos I think you need Benny Hill music with it.

I second that!

Keep up the good work Nicolas, we are enjoying this… I’ve even getting tired watching you work at such a feverish pace!

Yes. I’ve used Fernco couplings numerous times with excellent results. You’re correct about the blue pipe. It’s not meant to match regular schedule 40 PVC. Whenever I am doing any plumbing, I visit my friendly Home Depot and purchase every fitting known to man that I even remotely think I’ll need. It’s much easier to make the return after the job is completed than to have to run out to HD every time I reach a situation where the one fitting I need I didn’t buy.

Gee Dan…I never tried that. I do the required minimum of 3 trips to Lowe’s with each plumbing project. But then again Lowe’s is only 4 blocks from my house. Do you know how dangerous it is to have a Lowe’s that close to home?

Over buying is how I ended up with at least one of everything! The job seemed to get the receipt first to move to the next project… just saying the best laid plans of mice and men…

The layout has been up and running since the 4th of May, but I fell behind in the time lapses. Been trying to catch up.

Day 12 - Finally burying the drainage pipes.

Really?

Day 13 - Continuing PVC post installation. This video provides pretty good close up of the process I was using with the jig to put the posts in the ground vertically. Leveling took forever, and wasn’t guaranteed. If the post hit a rock or other object in the ground and was diverted by it, it would end up crooked and I wouldn’t know it until I pulled the jig off.

Yup. Initially I was good about posting them within a day but as I got momentum I was too tired at night to work on them. Hopefully have the rest posted in the next few days including the final video showing it running.

Skip to the final video with the layout running. (http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cool.gif)

Yeah, what Steve said.(http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-undecided.gif)

Yes please.

I fell asleep watching you move a hole…(http://www.largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)
