Thanks, Doc. I very much admire your work, too, as you know. I want to nominate you as the Littleton and Smallville Railroad’s official photographer. VBG.
Sign me and the boys up. We are heading to Canada.
I am really enjoying all the modeling techniques and materials you are posting in this post challenge construction blog. Very interesting. Keep up the good works.

Wowee John! That’s sure some fine work. A lot of great ideas rolled into one project and a great looking result too. Thanks for taking the time and trouble to post.
And just to bring this back to the top… Congratulations, John on a very well done model.

It looks even better in person than it does in my picture. A great job - 1st Place in Scratch Built at the ECLSTS - but it was Best of Show in my book.
Nice job
Nice! I like the weathering. Looks like moss.
Congrats John it was much better seeing it in person.
Congrats John… And to think that you had to be chided into joining the challenge!
Congratulations John, on a great model. And nice meeting you when you were here
Way to go John. That is such a nice model. I enjoy the weathering and all the intricate details.
Doc Tom
What they all said…
Congrats John ! Nicely done. The sea monkeys must be happily swimming loop da loops!!
John
Congratulations on a marvelous model.
It gives me great pleasure to reward the dedicated effort and thought that it takes to produce such a model. Hopefully next year I will be able to reward more of the entries in the scratch built category because the effort level was apparent in all of the entries.
I would like to thank all of the entries in the scratch built category for sharing their work with us. Well done to all.
I would also like to thank the 2 gentlemen that did the scratch built judging for their time and efforts.

GREAT AMERICAN LOCOMOTION
You guys are the real inspiration, you know! There are some fantastic modellers here; you R them, and your example made me try harder. I’m so glad my model brought you some pleasure.
Alan, thanks a lot for sponsoring the contest; it’s thoughtful and generous folk like you who hopefully will inspire new generations of scratchbuilders. What a great hobby and fantastic fellowship we all share.
I started at the age of 10, as a po’ kid making an H.O. scale AAR boxcar out of splintering wood I recycled from an orange crate, some bent finishing nails and a little leftover too-thick maroon oil paint I found in Dad’s workshop.
The hobby has taught me a lot; at times I even credit it with keeping me more or less sane, especially through those stormy teenage years.
Today’s kids can do even better if we take the time to encourage them. in trains, or in another creative hands-on hobby of their own choosing, and I cheer anybody who takes this to heart.
You guys are fantastic! We had such a good and full weekend that I’m already planning to come to York and visit you all again next year.
Thanks for the great American welcome!

And I’ll bet that you walked to school 10 miles in bare feet, in the winter, up hill with snow falling, into a blizzard, both ways, didn’t you?
Were the other entrants frustrated when they found out that you only spent a couple of bucks on your project?
