Vic, if it’s a scan kit, I had 3 of them in a round house setting and never had a problem with the roofs if worried I would just glue something heavy on the inside, also they, the buildings, warp very easy in hot weather so brace them, Bill
Maybe I missed something, but why does the roof have to be removable?
That is a fairly small building, does it have a solid floor or does it just straddle the track?

WONDERING THE SAME ?
It’s an old German kit sold under the Lindberg line. It’s very flimsy as the plastic is fairly thin. The roof is one piece and only really resting on the end gable panels, theres a small gap between the roof and the side panels. I’m thinking about hinging the room because it’s almost 2 feet long and I’m probably going to need access to the inside. It’s currently resting on a 1x2 wood base. My choice is glue the walls to the base to keep everything square and leave the roof loose or hinged, or glue the roof down and let the whole thing just rest sitting on the base.

I CA glued a basswood strip on each side to stiffen it up, for now I’m going to just let it sit as is for the moment. I’ve added another knife switch on the side so I can isolate the engine house from the rest of the fiddle yard. Right now scrounging around for rocks, I found at a local ACE hdwr black concrete bricks that when laid out make a very passable roadway, so I got a bunch for the town areas.

After spending thursday and friday setting out the pavers and bricks, I spent saturday and sunday moving the gravel from the far side of the garage to the layout. Between the pavers under the building locations and roadways and using bricks under the tracks I ended up needed far less gravel than I originally estimated. Back then I planned to fill the planter then float the track and buildings on top like I did way back with my first layout, it’s even what I did with the outdoor pizza. but using the paver/brick method saved a lot of time and effort. For now I am going to leave the bricks under the tracks exposed so I can test trains and make any necessary track tweeks for operation. Now comes detailing and testing trains.

Thanks, I’m planning on leaving it “as is” for a while. I have a lot of stuff to be tested on it, I suspect that the turnouts are going to be finiky. Once I am satisfied with how things run I will chicken grit the track ballast. I have quite a bit of things to do with it, those buildings are in need of refurbishing, I have to try a full setup with all the structures I have been bashing all these years. And I have to decide what to keep and what to shed train wise.
Just a quick update on the layout, buildings in place, planting succulents is next but I might wait until the cool season as the summer heat here can be quite brutal to plants that are not well established.
Like the church. Much better than my Mic project…
