Bob, Can I post a Bush joke?

Fr.Fred, Would you happen to recall when the Newfoundland HarpZeal season starts? ;) :)
Father is digging out his recipes for Zeal flipper pie, cod tongues and screech. No dogfish jokes, please, lest we offend Belinda the Domi-natrix.

Relax, Lads;

We may have a lady and gentleman visiting from St.Johns, on the weekend. She is a Garden Railroader, out there on the rock…even into R/C battery in a big way.
Who says Newfoundland is backward

…the story was told of the piper cub that crashed in a cemetary in St. Johns. Two years later they are still recovering bodies…

…and the old one of having to close the library in “Come-bye-chance”…someone stole the book…

The rallying cry of the Chicago ward heeler. Actually, it turns out that recently certain candidates for the leadership of a Canadian political party that shall remain nameless had padded their support rolls with names of voters from "across the river". Of course, I maintain that anyone who supports that party is brain-dead, no matter that they be walking around. Don't worry, Bob. There's so few of us around here that any flame war will only be a damp squib. Eh. It's a foul, wet fall, anyway.
At least here in the good ol' US of A, our dead only vote in their home precincts, and then only once!

I was going through my grandfather’s papers last week, trying to sort out what could be tossed, and what should be saved to share with my grandchildren. I knew he was a local politician, but I didn’t realize how much he was into it! Reading some of the editorials in which my grandpa was the subject was an eye-opener. How that newspaper hated that man. My Grandpa! The guy who used to take me with him out to the woodshed to get kindling, and smoke his pipe and then swear me to secrecy, “Now don’t you tell your grandmother about this.” And then we would walk back, kindling in one arm and my small hand in the other.

Let’s just accept that these guys are all human, believe that they are right, and all have grandchildren who love them. It’s fine to disagree with them, but keep it civil. No jokes, please.

Two years later, still trying to… thats rich! Sounds like Deer Park!

Sorry to say, Steve, but I just don’t share your feelings when it comes to some politicians. Unfortunately I can’t share those feelings with this board…or it would get ME banned…:frowning:

Warren

There is a good reason for that, Warren, it is inappropriate.

I hate the political season. I get carried away and say things I later regret. Sorry.

Me thinks, politicians should only be mentioned when they are either a help or a hinderance to railroads.

Hi,

many politicians do have and run model railroads. One of the most famous of them was Hermann Goering, who owned a huge Maerklin Gauge 1 layout. But of course, he was travelling by his personal train as well.

The Ex Prime Minister (Governer) of Saxony owns a LGB layout, the present one plays with HO-trains but is seen on large scale events quite often. He thinks of going large scale after retirement.

Have Fun

Ronald Reagan made many decisions while running his O-Gauge layout in the basement.

At the risk of getting sniped at, Goering was just a useful idiot. It was a good thing that he was the head of the Luftwaffe, and not someone of higher caliber who could actually adjust to the changing tactical and strategic situation. I suppose an arguement could be made that his being a model railroader can be counted as a redeeming quality.

Steve,

It’s time for an ancient Goering joke:

During the Thousand-Year Empire, making fun of the powers that were, was not more popular than it is today.

One creative fishmonger who was looking for a way to flog his wares came up with the following refrain:

“Herring, herring as fat as Goering”.

Well naturally that wouldn’t do; he was arrested and up before the magistrate in no time. Sentenced to two weeks (a fortnight, for the Brits) in the slammer.

When he completed his sentence, and he was back selling fish, he modified his refrain ever so slightly: “Herring, herring, just as fat as fourteen days ago”

What can I say. I’ve never been accused of being tactful or politically correct…

Let’s just say I tend to be as blunt as the front of a box cab…

I consider every politician a useful idiot. Ask the industry and banks who bought them. They do not spent a fortune in election campaigns for nothing. They want it back with profit. Everywhere.
