Yup, but to me they are just boids. If I know its name, it kind of spoils the mood while I am enjoying the boid with some mashed taters and a vegable. Tom is a male bird. I thought that most roasters were female birds.

Your gila woodpecker took me back initially - sort of similar to our Red-Bellied Woodpecker we get in the East, but on studying it, there’s quite a number of differences.

This is the Ken Bird…He has been known to migrate as far as the west coast but rare. It usually hangs around the east coast and migrates into Canada yearly. It does however change colors with the seasons. Here you can see him in early spring just before the molt and migration to the Midwest. I have heard about the molt but never seen his “dustings” which are usually captured in the Midwest during late summer and early fall. The Ken birds find a breeding mate early in life and never stray from their breeding mate but they must roam to find RR supremacy. They are listed on the endangered species list because of such.

I used to have a bird feeder with “regular” bird seed. Mostly got sparrows and house finches, but sometimes more interesting birds. Saw a black-headed grosbeak a couple times.
A couple weeks ago I was shooting some video of magnolia blossoms on the tree across the street, using a 200mm zoom. Didn’t realize until I watched it on the computer, that there was an oriole on the branch a few inches from the flower.
