Looks good Shawn…
So have you figured out the total cost of the build?
Ralph
Pretty neat, Shawn. I like that your first figure got a position of honor.
That is so cool!!! I love the exhaust noise
Your videos really have me interested in this. I’ve been searching around but I can’t figure out where you bought the boiler and engine kit. Most of my search results point me to Sulphur Springs Steam Models’ “KIT-BPE” which is a dead end (out of business ?).
Care to post some links ?
Thanks guys. Ralph Im not sure total cost but I want to build another one with a different body. Should cost a lot less now that I know how to build it. I think I have a new faverite engine. Is so easy and fast to get it up and running.
Too cool! I’ve never heard a live steamer that sounded like that before. It sounded more like a small gasoline engine.

Jon,
The steam engine: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0095P?FVSEARCH=midwest+heritage+<B>stea<%2FB>m+engines
But they’re out of stock.
Couldn’t find the engine at the Midwest Products site : http://www.midwestproducts.com/default.aspx
No search engine that I could find on the site.
Ralph
Womens work!
As Tim The Tool Man Taylor would say “Needs MORE POWER!”
I think Shawn started something here.
Ralph you could really any of the steam engine kits. Or by everything seperate. All you would need is a boiler and the engine. The lubricator and everthing else has to be bought seperate anyway. Try this site for a start

Mik might be able to guide you in another direction as well. I would image Mid West will be producing more soon if the stock is out.
I’m not sure what thread Shawn mentioned it in, but I heard him say he was thinking of doing a Climax or something similar. Look what I ran into today Googling steam engines…

Thats cool Jon. Do you know who makes that one? There is also the grahm engines that make the engine just like the class A http://www.grahamind.com/tvr1a.html. I was thinking about using that as my engine. The problem Im stuck on as of now would be making or buying trucks with the climax style gearing. If I cant find someone that makes them I might have to make them or find someone to try to make. Of course thats a future project not anytime soon. Worst case I could always make the Class A but using as simple gear system like the project engine. Then it would be more like the one I scrtch built with a static geariing/engine.
I didn’t keep track of where I saw it, but I’m sure I could find it again. I’ll look tonight when I get home.
As far as gearing, I think I would keep it simple with a chain drive. It doesn’t have to BE a Climax. Just a Climax inspired engine built in the back-woods shop with parts they can order in.
Jon & Shawn;
That engine configuration looks perfect for a Heisler.
Just a thought,
David Meashey

That’s more a Heisler. I think I spelled it right, but climax had the cylinders on 35-40 deg running fore and aft one each side.
Like the climax B in this photo of a local train the White Deer & Loganton RY Good ole #1
I have a B’mann Climax electric that is so dear to me it would be nice to have a live steamer.

That’s what I was thinking of, just couldn’t remember the name

Shawn - I saw that at http://www.buycheapr.com/us/result.jsp?ga=us14&q=steam+engine+kits The photo is about halfway down the page and leads to an eBay page: http://compare.ebay.com/like/130436266815
Edit to add: Which leads you to the company selling them… http://www.lineymachine.com/
