Large Scale Central

Backyard running on hold

Even though I don’t like the continual heat I can’t complain too much about living in the Central Valley. I’m just a short couple hours drive from the coast with temps in the 60s. I’m also only 90 minutes away from the mountains. I’m also a few hours from both Southern and Northern CA…while its hot I keep busy doing inside train activities…like RC/Battery conversions…coupler conversions…planning my garden layout town…playing with my iPad…taking naps…

Yep…summer is good!

Richard

Richard, can you run your trains in the mornings or evenings? Here in Florida it is hot and humid, and NOT a nice place to be outside during the day. However, I often run my trains and do miscellaneous chores on the railroad in the evenings during the summer.

Ed

Yes Ed, If I get myself going early enough. Late evenings are the better time. The summer I began construction on the RC&TR there were a lot of 9:00 PM starts…Now I have garden lights and will sometimes bring out my work light to light up an especially dark section.

Richard

The heat isn’t the problem, its the humidity! Its been real high (for us) and everything gets hot and stays hot late into the night accompanied with humid conditions makes it a PITA to do much outside. All in all I’ll take dryness over humidity any time.

Its raining here again, (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-frown.gif)and I hear thunder. I guess its another day of not running trains. (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-cry.gif)

Raining here in Orange County, CA right now and I hear thunder. Smells great!

Todd,

Hope it doesn’t rain here in Burbank right now! I’m working on my 1-1/2 inch stuff outside, locos AND rolling stock. Hot and sunny here…no rain in sight yet.

Is God mad at you?

Interesting that the weather map continually updates instead of showing the screen when I posted.

Well Todd, its grabbing the picture from the URL, and that is updated. So, ah, what rain? (http://largescalecentral.com/externals/tinymce/plugins/emoticons/img/smiley-wink.gif)

It got up to 86 degrees today, then suddenly we had a thunderstorm pass through here this afternoon. Love the smell of a good thunderstorm! Also love watching the lightning, but missed most of it because we were indoors, having a late lunch at Chili’s.

Update: Just checked the weather again, after the storm passed the heat went up to 88 as of 5 pm.

Update #2: It’s 91 degrees as of 6 pm! Humid too!

Thunder showers here in Burbank now. We’ll take “water” anyway we can get it!
